Fight Of The Century: Here is a perfect opportunity to tell friends you got jumped by six thugs on the street and fought all of them off and walked away with nothing but a small bump on your head. I suggest this because I have every confidence you'll be OK. But...if the headache keeps getting worse or you start vomiting or your vision gets blurry, things like that, get someone to take you to the ER. Otherwise use Tylenol (acetaminophen) ...Read more

Yes. Have her seen.: It's so easy to have a baby roll over or scoot off a bed or changing table. The facts that she is acting normally and cried right away - stopping with being picked up, are all reassuring. But i'd advise you to have your seven-week-old evaluated in the er just in case. My daughter discovered a small knot on the back of her head and it is soar. It has been there for four days. What could it be?

Observe: For now if she does not have a fever. It may be an enlarged lymph node or hair folliculitis that may resolve in time.If febrile and it had grown bigger, and tender to touch- get her checked. She may have an infected gland that may need to be treated with antibiotics. ...Read more

I hit my head on a gate latch while bending over to pick something up. It got a small knot which is now squishy. Should I be concerned?

Probably not: If you did not pass out, do not have severe headaches and feel normal as far as mood then it is probably just some bruising under the scalp. It should resolve in a week or so. If you did lose consciousness or if you are having severe headaches, visual changes or mood changes see a doctor right away. ...Read more

My 8 year old just hit back of her head on the corner of the porcelain sink. She has a small knot and is tender and painful. Will she be ok?

My 8 year old just hit back of her head on the corner of the porcelain sink. She has a small knot and is tender and painful. Will she be ok?

Yes: As long as she is awake and alert, she should be fine. If she begins to cry, complain of pain, develop an inability to touch her chest with her chin without exquisite pain, or develops problems with speech, walking, loss of use of part of her body, go to the er. If you have any concerns by morning, call her pediatrician. In fact, you may wish to do that now. Injury is insignificant by descriptio. ...Read more

I have a swollen knot above the middle of my right eyebrow.Hit my head hard there 9mnths ago..It's small, but ugly. Advice?

Have it checked out: When you hit your head, you may have had bleeding there. If it formed a blood clot, it can leave a residual knot on the surface of the skull which you feel as the small knot. Hard to say whether it will eventually flatten out or not. There are also other things it could be. Have it checked out by a surgeon. ...Read more

I have been also experiencing burning sensations in the back of my head. I noticed a small knot as well, maybe a cyst, ? What is this sinusitis?

Probably not: Trauma (blow) to the region would give you a bump. Other causes can include inflammation, tumor (most likely benign), but it does not sound like sinusitis. Consult your pcp. ...Read more

Moved fast and bumped top of head on hard wood shelf 15 hrs ago small knot hurt after injury feels sore and tingly on top of head should I be concern?

Head trauma: Hello there, if you simply bumped your head then you should not be alarmed. However, if you feel this was a traumatic injury and you blacked out, passed out, feel like you were seeing stars or you have a severe headache you should seek emergency medical assistance immediately. It is possible that you have sustained a concussion but it is not possible to diagnose without seeing a doctor for help. ...Read more

Not sure: Your clinical information indicates that you have Crohn's and are on an an antibiotic. It is difficult to tell from your description what this knot may be with any accuracy. If this is a softer, possibly rubbery small knot it could be a lymph node, but could be something else as well. As with any lump you find, it should have it evaluated to make sure that there are not other concerns. ...Read more

Knot like a vein in the back of my head kinda hurt to the touch but mostly feel like pressure to the touch is kinda small could this be something serious well i know it could be ..?

Doctor can evaluate: A knot or lump in the scalp or back of the head may be a lymph node or a skin cyst, among other possibilities. A primary care doctor can evaluate, and refer to an ENT or dermatology specialist if needed. It's very hard to guess exactly what it might be, without the whole story and an exam. ...Read more

My 26yr old fiance` pulled a tick off his head, it was there for possibly 4-5days. He found it & pulled it off sun. Am. Says its sore, has small knot?

Tick bites: This depends on the tick. There are many different species. Very few ticks carry disease, and those that do may carry different pathogens. If your fiance becomes symptomatic in any way besides what you have described, he should go and see a doctor and tell him what has happened. In your area the major issues are not lyme, but anaplasma and other similar organisms. ...Read more

What can cause hard movable knots under the skin? My son has these on his face... Some small and large.

What can cause hard movable knots under the skin? My son has these on his face... Some small and large.

Some thoughts...: They could be cysts, little fluid filled sacs, that are generally harmless but sometimes could become inflamed. It'd be good to have your son's doc take a feel of them - don't need to have him go to an urgent care or ed, but just a regular visit, especially if they've been there for a long time. ...Read more
