Sono seems OK: If your ultrasound exam was performed by a skilled certified sonographer and accurate measurements of the "crown-rump-length" of your embryo were obtained, the findings you describe are not causes for alarm; your gestational age and due date (along with the viability of your pregnancy) may simply have to be confirmed by a follow-up "dating" sonogram in 3 to 4 weeks. ...Read more

What does it mean if you have an irregular small gestational sac at five weeks five days n my hCG is 3009?

Gestational sac: You may not have a viable pregnancy and this needs to be discussed with your GYN. Meaning you may not carry this fetus to delivery. ...Read more

Is a small gestational sac in relation to the fetus a sign of a chromosomal abnormality. Fetus 9w sac 7w. Doctor and research have me very worried.

Is a small gestational sac in relation to the fetus a sign of a chromosomal abnormality. Fetus 9w sac 7w. Doctor and research have me very worried.

Hard to answer...: At such an early stage, imaging and interpretation is hard.
There are associations between size and abnormalities.
But it is impossible to look at a minimally smaller size and conclude anything, especially chromosomal disorders.
It is best not to worry, but follow this serially and monitor progress. Your OB is the best judge of this and should advice you of intervention if at all needed. ...Read more

Bled whole pregnancy. At 7w (lmp) measured 6 weeks with small gestational sac. At 8w (lmp) measured 6w6d with sac at 4.5 weeks. HR 154. Miscarriage?

Bled whole pregnancy. At 7w (lmp) measured 6 weeks with small gestational sac. At 8w (lmp) measured 6w6d with sac at 4.5 weeks. HR 154. Miscarriage?

Not necessarily: Hi,
Without seeing the ultrasounds it is a little confusing. At the first U/S, what was measuring 6wk? > the sac or the fetus, if they saw one. The second U/S would actually be reassuring; they measured a fetus at 6w6d (the difference from LMP would just mean your dates are off), but a fetal heart rate of 154 is reassuring. The continued bleeding is worrisome, but keep the faith! Good luck ...Read more

Endometrial stripe meas 4.6mm and its thin endometrium with small gestational sac, is it normal for a 7 weeks pregnant?

Endometrial stripe meas 4.6mm and its thin endometrium with small gestational sac, is it normal for a 7 weeks pregnant?

Maybe: It is possible that your dates are a little off so the measurements could reflect a pregnancy of a slightly earlier gestational age. The important thing will be your next ultrasound which hopefully you can have done in 10-14 days. ...Read more

5 wks. 4 days pregnant. Vaginal ultrasound showed small gestational sac and yolk sac, but could not see embryo? Is this normal? Yolk sac a good sign?

Yes: The yolk sac normally shows up first (before the embryo) on ultrasound at about this time. If all is well, embryo should become visible within a week or so. ...Read more

Hcg 1419 @ 18 days past conception. Uterine lining is "quite thick" per doctor, 5cm corpus luteum cyst. Possible small gestational sac seen. Normal?

Yes: Everything you state sounds good. In addition, you actually want a nice thick lush endometrium to support the pregnancy. The corpus luteum provides the progesterone you need until the placenta takes over production around 12 weeks. ...Read more

Hcg 20000 mar 5, hCG 27500 mar 11, vaginal us found only small gestation sac at eight week in uterus. Doc suspicious for ectopic?

Hcg 20000 mar 5, hCG 27500 mar 11, vaginal us found only small gestation sac at eight week in uterus. Doc suspicious for ectopic?

Assuming the HCG..: ..Levels are accurate, your do not have a viable pregnancy. The sono confirms this. I would do an endometrial biopsy to see if your pregnancy is intrauterine, and consider Methotrexate therapy as treatment for an ectopic if present. I would expect some pain and bleeding if you have an ectopic. ...Read more

What does a small irregular gestational sac containing a yolk sac indicate? I have had some bleeding. When is this considered a miscarriage?

What does a small irregular gestational sac containing a yolk sac indicate? I have had some bleeding. When is this considered a miscarriage?

Give it time: The yolk sac and gestational sac are the earliest structures to form inside the uterus. If on a repeat US, you don't see a small embryo, it can be correlated with the time of your pregnancy, your hormonal levels and that can be used to determine the viability of the pregnancy.

Hemorrhage, lower then average hormones, fetus smaller then normal, gestational sac 2 weeks behind fetus. Chances of trisomy or other abnormalities?

Maybe, miscarriage is: More likely. Not knowing how many weeks pregnant you are, it's difficult to give you more specific information. Usually the above consistent with early pregnancy loss. It is best to follow closely with Gyn/OB. Also try to avoid air travel or long car rides, trips in remote areas until this is settled. Miscarriage is potentially serious and can result in significant blood loss, so call 911 4 help ...Read more

Ok, so I had an ultrasound at 15/16 weeks. The tech said the baby was small compared to the gestational sac, so they couldn't date it. Is this bad?

Get clarification: No, it's not bad. In the first trimester fetal size (crown-rump length) beats gs measurement every time for accuracy. In the 2nd trimester fetal biometry is important (bpd, abdominal circumference, femur length,) not sac size. ...Read more

5w 4d pregnant, slightly irregular gestational sac, small yolk sac, hcg 36624, is this abnormal? Viable pregnancy?

Unfortunately not: The sonographic findings associated with your betaHCG levels of 36624 are unfortunately not normal and are usually diagnostic of an "early pregnancy failure". Sorry for your loss. ...Read more

I am 6 weeks pregnant and small sac gestational?

I am 6 weeks pregnant and small sac gestational?

Not enough info: Unless the exact date of ovulation is known, one ultrasound should not provide a prognosis. Also, the sac in the uterus needs to be confirmed gestational as opposed to an ectopic pregnancy. At a true 6 weeks gestation, the sac should also show a yolk sac, fetal pole and cardiac motion. But your dates may not be accurate so recommend follow up ultrasound to evaluate growth. ...Read more

What size should the gestational sac be at 7.5 weeks? Is there a concern with a small sac?

What size should the gestational sac be at 7.5 weeks? Is there a concern with a small sac?

Gestational sac size: What we should see at 7.5 weeks is a developing fetus with cardiac activity and a crown-rump length consistent with the menstrual cycle or fertility treatments. This is more important than the actual sac size. If the heartbeat was seen then there is a viable pregnancy. ...Read more

Gestational sac measuring two weeks smaller than baby. Baby measuring normal for dates and hb is good. Why is the sac so small and is this a bad sign?

Small gest sac: Would not be too concerned about sac size. If CRL is appropriate and HB is good those are very good signs. Be patient. Too early yet to tell much. Hope this helps. Best of luck. And Congratulations! ...Read more

Could gestational sac measure small due to dehydration? The baby is measuring normal with a normal hb but the sac is measuring almost 2 weeks behind.

Could gestational sac measure small due to dehydration? The baby is measuring normal with a normal hb but the sac is measuring almost 2 weeks behind.

No: Dehydration does not affect the size of the gestational sac because the fluid around the developing embryo does not come from your body systems. The size of the embryo is a more reliable measure of gestational age and thus should be used when possible. ...Read more

The doctor is saying that my gestational sac is measuring too small and the baby is too big for it I am 8 w 2 d does that mean miscarriage?

Heart beat?: The most important thing to find out was if there was a fetus with a heartbeat visualized on the sonogram located inside of the uterus. If so then this is good news. The size of the gestational sac is not likely to be a contributory data point if the rest is true. You can ask your doctor to explain what was meant by a small gestational sac ...Read more

Pregnancy dated 6 weeks 5 days but gestational sac measures small at 5weeks 5 days. I am so worried. Heart beat was 130.?

Sac size: Sac size is much less reliable than crown rump length and your fetal heart rate is fine. Don't worry about the sac size. Very common to see one either larger or smaller than the fetus. ...Read more
