Small Fat Containing Hernia
What is a small fat containing umbilical hernia, I have been diagnosed with one, you can't see it, my belly button is still poked in!
Usually not serious:
since the hernia is small and contains only fat (from within the abdomen), it is unlikely that it will lead to incarceration or strangulation of intestines, which is the worst complication of hernias. The belly button is still in the same spot. The fat in the small hernia sac is right next to the belly button (umbilicus). If the hernia gets larger or causes pain, it should be fixed. ...Read more

I'm 29. have just had a ct. Indicated I have a small umbilical hernia containing fat. Still having pain after two weeks. Should I talk to a surgeon?
Do you recommend even with a hernia as small as 0.56cm paraumbilical protruding through fat only should be repaired?
I looked up my abd US & it says (small break in the fascial plane suggesting a small hernia at the site with minimal omental fat herniation) serious??
Talk with your doc..: Refer this Q to your doctor since the marginal findings of US have to always correlate with clinical profile so to make a reasonable, not perfect, judgement since no test bears a 100% of accuracy and specificity. Besides, all life events always display on their pattern of full spectrum; therefore, it is hard to make a perfect diagnosis especially at their early almost non-discernable stage. ...Read more
RightChurch, WrongPew: Umbilical hernias certainly can cause pain, but it is usually localized to the area of the hernia. A simple test is to touch the hernia: if this does not reproduce your RUQ pain, I would search for other causes (gallstones are usually the first things we think of in the ruq). Good luck! ...Read more
What is a fat-containong lhernia with a knuckle of small bowel extending close to the margins of the hernia?
Hernia: Hernias move and can change position usually, unless the intestine is trapped. The fat and the bowel are a connected structure. Your imaging studies shows that bowel and fat are able to pass into a location where they don't belong, and this is by definition a hernia. Hernias that cause pain, or are trapped, need surgical repair. See your surgeon. ...Read more

Fat containing umblical hernia from a previous surgery recntly start getting pain above my navel area but my pcp ant takin it serious hurts thoe hlp?
Painful hernia: A painful hernia should be evaluated. I assume that a ct scan demonstrated that it only contains fat? Nevertheless, a painful hernia should be evaluated and considered for repair. Pain at the site of a hernia is an indication for repair. When standing or exerting, it is possible for other organs/intestines to protrude other than simply omental fat. Ask your doctor for a referral to a surgeon. ...Read more

I am overweight and I was recently told I have a infraumbilical fat containing a ventral hernia. This was noted on a recent ct scan. What is it and sh?
This is a hernia: This hernia contains fat, if it was only found on CT scan and you didn't know it was there do not worry about having it fixed, but observe it. Hernias may enlarge over time. Focus on diet but eating healthy, avoiding sugary and starchy foods. As your weight goes down you may be able to have the Hernia repaired one day. ...Read more
Is a CT scan finding of 'fat containing inguinal hernias, left greater than right' significant? My gp didn't mention it.
Fat: Findings of fat on a ct scan may be a normal finding of a fatty "cord lipoma" that needs no treatment and is observed. Ct is not good for hernias unless they are larger. Need to have a corroborating physical examination to see if the ct scan findings are causing an internal lump or swelling at the site where hernias occur. ...Read more
Can a fat containing bochdalek hernia cause pain in an adult? Can the hernia be larger than suspected on ct scan? Can ct miss organ entrapment?
Bochdalek hernias: Presenting in adulthood are relatively rare, and of those, it is relatively rare to have symptoms. But, symptoms such as pain can occur, and would depend on size and other factors. CT provides fairly exact measurements, although it is possible that physiologic factors could cause temporary size changes. CT will not miss organ entrapment. ...Read more

Small fat containg umbilcal hernia. Can it be the reason for my stomach pain its real moderate with nausea two days hurts. Went to ER no help?
Umb hermia: It can be cause of your pain or not. Umbilical hernias can hurt cause either fat or bowel can get stuck and cause swelling of the tissue due to blood supply being affected. With that said the pain you are having may have nothing to do with your umbilical hernia. You need a better evaluation by your doctor or emegency room. Like an x-ray or ct-scan. ...Read more

Depends but rare: Omentum inside the hernia sac is a low risk incarceration. In comparison if a loop of bowel were stuck/incarcerated in the hernia sac this can turn into ischemia bowel with perforation, very serious health risk. How to what contents are in the hernia? What does fat fill like and what does intestines fill like?
Ask your doc is easy: It would be much easier to refer a Q of this nature to your doctor. Nonetheless, I will always love to answer. With these in mind, one can easily imagine or guess what may get into its sac. Remember: Always seek help if hernia-related pain/swelling persists/worsen ...Read more
