Subchorionic bleeds: If you are a smoker with a subchorionic bleed the risk of miscarriage is higher, but in general subchorionic bleeds are common and don't necessarily cause an issue. The cyst is likely your corpus luteum and you are supposed to have one. It provides progesterone to your pregnancy until the placenta takes over production around 12 weeks. ...Read more

How many days after fertilization does the fertilized egg become a blastocyst? Then embryo? What implants-the blastocyst or embryo?
The process: As the fertilized egg divides, it is first known as a morula. Approximately 5 days from first fertilization it forms into a hollow ball known as a blastocyst. This blastocyst implants and begins to sort itself out into different layers--the inner group becomes the embryo and the outer layer will work to nourish and protect. At approximately 6-7 weeks from time of fertilization, an embryo begins. ...Read more

Small yolk sac: This sounds reassuring. You are probably in your 5th week. You can always have serial quant. Hcg blood tests done 48 hrs apart. Therefore implantation bleeding can occur sometime between day 18 at the earliest and 22 at the latest (days 19-20 for most women). Of course there are exceptions but this applies to most regularly menstruating women. ...Read more
We had IVF with PGS and 5d blastocyst. When our embryo was 6w4d, we saw 13mm empty GS w/o yolk sac and fetal pole. hCG doubling. How likely is it BO?
May be too early...: .... to tell how well your early pregnancy is going. Generally, with a singleton non-IVF intrauterine pregnancy, the embryonic developmental milestones are known and there are sonographic criteria to diagnose a failed or failing pregnancy that may not apply to all IVF pregnancies. Usually, diagnosis of a failed pregnancy will be made if the mean gestational sac diam.is >25 mm and no embryo is seen ...Read more
Gestational sac and yolk sac at 5.4 weeks, but no fetal pole. What are the chances an embryo will show up? Worried ab blighted ovum.
Depends: The hematoma may give the sac an unusual shape. Usually it does not . If there is a n unusual shape a follow up ultrasound and evaluation should be done within a week or right away if there is painful bleeding , or heavy bleeding. Nature will decide how successful the pregnanacy can turn out .There is nothing you can do to change the eventual outcome for the embryo. ...Read more
If chances of conception increase in 2 embryo transfer IVF Why doc recomend single embryo?what are risks of 2 embryo apart from twins?
It's all about twins: Twins are a little bit trickier pregnancy. Twinning with 2 embryos is as high as 20-30%. In the US the ASRM allows 1 or 2 embryos in a 29 year old woman, but recommends only one. Personally I believe this is patient's choice and do NOT recommend 1 vs. 2, but that's me. Your info says you are 29 and in the UK? I do not know the UK standard of care but the science is the same. Best wishes! ...Read more
