What is the result of a small anterior fontanelle?

What is the result of a small anterior fontanelle?

It's normal: A small anterior fontanel is an otherwise healthy baby is generally no problem at all -- and the same goes for large anterior fontanels. They do sometimes go along with other medical conditions, but those conditions are generally obvious enough that parents would generally already be aware of them. Usually a small fontanel is just normal. ...Read more

Soft Spot On Top Of Head (Definition)

In an infant, the space where two skull-bone sutures join forms a membrane-covered "soft spot" called a fontanel (fontanelle). The fontanels allow for growth of the skull during an infant's first year. The fontanels should feel firm and very slightly curved inward to the touch. A tense or bulging fontanel occurs when fluid builds up in the skull cavity or when pressure increases in the brain (increased intracranial pressure). When the infant is crying, lying down, or vomiting, the fontanels may look like they are slightly bulging, but they should return to normal when the infant is in ...Read more

Why my baby's anterior fontanelle smell different than the other body parts? The smell is not that bad but im confuse what make it smell like that?

Why my baby's anterior fontanelle smell different than the other body parts? The smell is not that bad but im confuse what make it smell like that?

No scientific reason: I can't think of a scientific reason for this, nor do I know the age of your baby. It is not unusual for babies to develop a "cradle cap" rash which can have a distinct smell. Are there scaly patches on the babies scalp? If you see nothing, then I would not give it a second thought. In fact, the best thing for the " cradle cap" rash is to ALSO do nothing! Enjoy your baby! ...Read more

My anterior fontanelle was prematurely closed shortly after birth b/c I was a premie. Does this mean I have craniocynostosis?

My anterior fontanelle was prematurely closed shortly after birth b/c I was a premie. Does this mean I have craniocynostosis?

No: The closure of the soft spot does not define craniosynostosis. It can be undetectable in size or as large as a grapefruit and the kid turn out fine. It is the behavior of the skull bones define a problem. If they fuse, not just close in, a person will have a ridge develop at the point of fusion and abnormalities develop in the shape of the head, that is craniosynostosis. ...Read more

I have a 22 months old healthy hyperactive baby boy with open anterior fontanelle. I was vit D3 defficient during pregnancy. Can this be the reason?

4-26 months is the: Range of closure of the anterior fontanelle. If he has no increased intracranial pressure, congenital hypothyroidism, or skeletal anomalies, it's probably an "outlier." early-onset hyperactivity is seen with family history of adhd, prenatal exposure to drugs & alcohol, & some genetic syndromes. Does india have an early intervention program that can help you by assessing his development? ...Read more

Why the overpressure on the anterior fontanelle by neonatal brain ultrasound cause bradycardia of the neonate?

Why the overpressure on the anterior fontanelle by neonatal brain ultrasound cause bradycardia of the neonate?

Cushing reflex: Increased intracranial pressure from any cause at any age & decreased blood flow to certain parts of the brain can cause Cushing's triad: increased blood pressure, irregular breathing, & bradycardia. Since a neonate's skull bones aren't fused, increased pressure causes the fontanelle to bulge. Doctors will determine the cause - hydrocephalus, bleeding, infection, etc. & reduce the pressure ASAP. ...Read more

My One day old baby has no fontanelle?

Molding initially: As babies make their way through the birth canal, their skull plates overlap to a degree to pass through. It is not unusual for this to result in a small fontanelle at birth. Your hospital physician will verify that the plates are " mobile" by exam. The overlap resolves within the first week or two of life. ...Read more

How protected is babys fontanelle I find my baby across his crib and he pushes up with his feet when his head is against the bars?

How protected is babys fontanelle I find my baby across his crib and he pushes up with his feet when his head is against the bars?

Likely OK but....: The brain is relatively well protected, even in the fontanel regions. Babies themselves usually cannot create enough pressure/force to hurt themselves. But it depends on the specific case. Please make sure there are no "pointy" regions on the crib that the baby could potentially hurt themselves on. ...Read more
