Help! Need to know if there's a mental issue or slowness that can cause a speech impediment, such as not being able to form words?

More info needed: That is a very general question. It depends on many factors, including the age and overall health of the patient, the nature of the symptoms, medications being taken, and many others. However, it is safe to say that the development of such a symptom where it previously did not exist warrants an evaluation with a primary care physician. ...Read more

Is slowness or sluggishness thyroid or depression?

Could be either/both: There is a lot of overlap between the symptoms of thyroid dysfunction and depression/anxiety. Most often.: Parkinson's disease. But to be certain you should have him examined by a neurologist. A common finding is what is known as resting tremor, also called "pill rolling" tremor because the patients appear to be rolling a pill between thier thumbs and index fingers at rest, but when they reach for something, often the tremor disappears. Can slowness/difficulty in reading come from lack of detailed reading (looking at headings, titles, skimming/not reading content often) or dyslexia?

Can slowness/difficulty in reading come from lack of detailed reading (looking at headings, titles, skimming/not reading content often) or dyslexia?

Either!: Skill and speed at reading certainly depends on practice! Every improves with practice, even with learning disorders. However if you have a learning disorder, see a specialist to find out what kind, then you can be given effective methods to make learning easier. When trying to read faster, pick a subject that you like! It is often easier to get more enjoyment from non-fiction/jokes first ...Read more

Can a food allergy cause mental slowness/confusion? I have new food allergies (IgE testing) and trying to make sense of it all. Thanks!

Can a food allergy cause mental slowness/confusion? I have new food allergies (IgE testing) and trying to make sense of it all. Thanks!

Not likely: Many people with no food allergy will produce antibody that reacts to the food allergy panel. Thus, these tests need to be interpreted by experts who treat food allergy daily. Skin testing is often more accurate, but ones history of symptoms that follow an ingestion is critical as well. Yes, dizziness/fogginess can occur with allergy, but is transient immediately following intake. Be well! ...Read more

On 100mcg of Levothyroxine but still feel sluggish, anxious, mental slowness, and lack of motivation. Possible other underlying issues?

On 100mcg of Levothyroxine but still feel sluggish, anxious, mental slowness, and lack of motivation. Possible other underlying issues?

Depends: Usually hypothyroid has accompanying labs done. While your dose maybe within range you might need to ask your physician to consider an increase as clinically you are not feeling as good as expected. I usually treat the patient, the labs are guidelines and I would refer you back to whom ever prescribed the med. Need more information as well to consider additional medical diagnosis. ...Read more

Not feeling depressed but doctor put me on abulify for unbearable fatigue and "slowness" she's not sure itsmood or my uctd, how would abulify help?

Get another opinion: Abilify (aripiprazole) is used to treat bipolar disorder and schizophrenia as well as an adjunct to antidepressant meds. It is not a drug to treat fatigue per se unless the doctor is fairly certain that the fatigue is due to major uncontrolled depression. ...Read more

Parkinson. Slowness movement, beginning state. 2 guide fr 2 doctors: 1st: sifrol 250; 2nd: trivastal 50mg, lioresal (baclofen) 10mg, artane 2mg. Which one better?

Parkinson. Slowness movement, beginning state. 2 guide fr 2 doctors: 1st: sifrol 250; 2nd: trivastal 50mg, lioresal (baclofen) 10mg, artane 2mg. Which one better?

Critique: Trivastal, a newer Dopamine agonist, is not available in the usa, but might be a choice. Sifrol, pramipexole, is likely your safest and best starting drug. There is no role for lioresal, (baclofen) and Artane is literally "poison" and is not used in the usa. Choose the doc who recommended sifrol. ...Read more

Is it ok that my baby is a slow eater?

Growth curve?: If your baby is gaining weight appropriately and reaching his or her developmental milestones, that is the most important.
