My mom always try to carry my baby from her hands.. She would hold her hands & pull her up from her car seat. She says it will strengthen her. Is it ok?

Not a good idea: An infant should be picked up with both hands encircling the trunk. Pulling an infant or toddler up by the hands risks dislocating the radial bone at the elbow. This can produce a painful event that will land you in an urgent care center, doc's office or er. ...Read more

Does putting your 3 month old baby to sit up in your arms while holding him affect his spine or maybe cause him to grow with hunch back?

Does putting your 3 month old baby to sit up in your arms while holding him affect his spine or maybe cause him to grow with hunch back?

No: As a parent, I can tell you that it is a much tougher job than being a doctor. Children do best with a healthy daily dose of love. Letting your child sit with you won't cause a spinal disorder or interfere with growth. Keep doing it. Keep asking questions, but try not to worry. ...Read more

My baby , male , 8 months, when i try to make him stand , by holding him with my both hands he puts his body weight on one leg , other leg loose?

My baby , male , 8 months, when i try to make him stand , by holding him with my both hands he puts his body weight on one leg , other leg loose?

He's a little young: For standing. At 7-8 mos., it's typical for babies to do " jumping jacks" when placed in a stand. Gross motor or large muscle skills progress head-to-toe the 1st year. Getting to a sit & up on all fours for crawling are 6-8 mo. Milestones; pulling to a kneel, then to a stand are @ 9-10 mo. Having said that, asymmetry should be checked by his doctor to rule out hip dysplasia or a neurological issue. ...Read more

When my 3 month old who sleeps through the night wakes up, his hands are freezing. I don't over dress him andi use a fan to prevent sids, heat set@ 70?

When my 3 month old who sleeps through the night wakes up, his hands are freezing. I don't over dress him andi use a fan to prevent sids, heat set@ 70?

Common energy saver: Infants in a cool environment often shift blood flow from the top skin down deeper to conserve the heat & energy they use to grow. Fingers, toes, lips & ears are often cooler than surrounding areas.Sleeping in a onzie with mittens & hat is what i reccomend. The cold hands is not a sign of a problem & likely bothers you more than baby.Fans or pacifiers may drop sids risk but not > sleeping on hisback. ...Read more

Why does my baby put her hands in her mouth?

Why does my baby put her hands in her mouth?

Teething: Teething babies often will put their hands in their mouths to make themselves feel better. Other signs of teething include if they are drooling as well, or tugging at their ears (nerves to the jawbone are shared with the ear which can lead babies to tug at their ears). My son is 8 weeks old, when do babies start crawling? I've been working on it with him during tummy time but he can't pick himself up with his arms.

Keep up the : tummy time. At 2 mos. he'll regard his fists & get his head up to regard & follow a red or yellow toy dangled in front of him. At 4 mos., he'll get his head & chest up. By 5 mos. he'll be able to bear weight on his forearms, shifting from one to the other to reach for & attain objects. Cat-crawling is variable if it happens at all. It used to be ~ 6 mos., now ~ 7-8 mos. since " back to sleep". ...Read more

My 1 year old son is teething and not sleeping through the night. Wakes up screaming. Falls asleep but as soon as i put him down he wakes. Advice?

Help with teething: Generally Ibuprofen is much more effective for teething than acetaminophen. You can also let your baby chew on a cold teething ring. Some parents have found camilia really aids in teething discomfort. It is important you do not give your baby more than four doses of Acetaminophen per day. Acetaminophen really challenges the liver. Massaging the gum tissue with a soft bristle brush can also help. ...Read more

My baby is sleep trained, but since she learned to roll over she ends up on her tummy while sleeping and she wakes up and cries. What should I do?

Age? Formula?: I applaud your training your baby to sleep and your awareness of sids when the baby is on its stomach. Once the baby can roll over and is over 4-6 months those risks are decreased and you can continue sleep training. Depending on the age and diet i can tell you whether it is normal to sleep through the night. ...Read more
