Hyersomnia: In case of hypersomnia, the overnight sleep study is not enough alone, another study called mean sleep latency testing is needed to evaluate the severity of hypersomnia and to rule out narcolepsy. If you were told that you have idiopathic hypersomnia, i presumed that you had already mslt and narcolepsy was ruled out, anyhow stimulants, sleep hygiene modulation and regular exercise are the best. ...Read more

Any : Any patient who has insomnia must pay attention to their sleep hygiene. You must avoid alcohol and sedatives after 6 pm, leave bed for sex and sleep only and no tv in bed. If you can't fall asleep in bed don't stay in bed just find something else to do and come back to bed when u are a little sleepy. This will train your brain that bed is not for worrying/watching tv etc and will improve sleep. If all this does not work then you can consider other alternatives. Since melatonin is a natural supplement thus should be the first step. Sleep aids have high risk of dependance and should be tried on as needed basis only. ...Read more

Many treatments: There are many treatments to insomnia. I would start with a sleep hygiene. Pick one time to sleep and stick with it every night. The room should be dark, and cool. The bed is only for sleeping and not watching TV, computer etc. No meals 2 hours before bedtime. No stimulants (coffee, dark tea, chocolate). This this does not work there are sleep studies. Alcohol?: What you are describing happens when you wake up from rem sleep. Melatonin has nothing to do with it, it is not an fda approved medication, and I am not sure why you are taking it. None of the medications you listed is expected to cause vivid dreams. Alcohol, and certain sleeping pills could do that. Recovering from sleep deprivation (long work nights) can precipitate it. ...Read more

Stop the meds: Lunesta/ambien and vistaril not working? You need to wean off these meds and see a sleep specialist. You can try Restoril (temazepam) or trazadone or neurontin, but i doubt it. You should consider seroquel or zyprexa as you may have bipolar disorder, esp if you cannot shut your mind off at night. ...Read more

Not enough sleep: It sounds like you're experiencing real symptoms from lack of sleep. Sleep is crucial to maintaining body functions, especially attention and memory, but also bodily functions like activity and energy level. Interesting: I can assure you that this is not dangerous, but you are accumulating B12 and it is not being activated rto become useful as a virtamin. Oddly enough, it may indicate vitamin b1 deficiency. It is a complex issue that needs the advice of a physician who knows the chemistry. ...Read more

No changes: You have high, but not abnormally or dangerously high levels. I wouldn't change anything. That being said, if you are taking B12 supplements without the care of a doctor, i would consider cutting back on them. ...Read more
