Daily use of Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for sleep aid on a 16 month old. Are there long term side effects?
Nothing major: Benadryl can alter the sleep pattern some with diminished time in deep (recuperative) sleep stage. I would never consider chronic use in an infant. I take low dose of Nyquil occasionally as a sleep aid and its quite effective. A side effect for me is relief from Anxiety symptoms the next day.Why?

There is no best: There's no "best" natural sleep aid. What works for one person may not work for another. Melatonin and valerian root are two commons natural sleep aids. Gravol: I don't know which gravol product you're talking about -- there are several of them. http://tinyurl.com/lar4efy the ones with ginger only probably would not help you sleep, but the ones with dimenhydrinate in them might. Sleep recommendation: It really depends on the cause of the insomnia. If "pure" initial insomnia that comes and goes randomly lasting for only a few days, over the counter remedies can help. Diphenhydramine, melatonin, or valerian root can work - but must be from reputable producers. Sonata, (zaleplon) lunesta, or Ambien are prescription aids.
