Based on ultrasound, the uterus is anteverted measuring 5.5 x 3.0 x 3.9cm the endometrial echo measures 0.5 cm in thickness. Is it normal?

Was this ultrasound: done for routine pregnancy? IF so, you are probably early on in your pregnancy. If it was done for GYN reasons, e.g. irregular bleeding or untimely bleeding, then it depends on what your normal situation is. Are you on birth control pills or implants? Do you have an IUD or planning on one? These measurements can be normal in the right setting, or not. ...Read more

Where is the difference between monodimensional, bidimensional, threedimensional and colour doppler echocardiography?

Where is the difference between monodimensional, bidimensional, threedimensional and colour doppler echocardiography?

A lot: This is procedural and scientific question that needs more room than in this space. Look up m-mode, b-mode and real time echocardiography. This link as some info but is incomplete: http://en.Wikipedia.Org/wiki/echocardiography 3d is really 4d when you add in time. ...Read more

What does endometrial cavity echo measures 9 mm in bilayer thickness mean?

What does endometrial cavity echo measures 9 mm in bilayer thickness mean?

It's a good thing!: They are measuring the lining inside the uterus (the lining is the stuff that comes out with your period). It is 9 mm's wide, which is normal for someone your age. There are 2 layers to the lining, one from the top wall and one from the bottom wall, so that is why they call it "bilayer". ...Read more

What's the significance of a fundal height measurement?

What's the significance of a fundal height measurement?

Fundal height is generally defined as the distance from the pubic bone to the top of the uterus measured in centimeters: After the first 16 weeks of pregnancy, your fundal height measurement often matches the number of weeks you've been pregnant. For example, if you're 27 weeks pregnant, your health care provider would expect your fundal height to be about 27 centimeters. It isn't unusual, however, for your fundal height to measure somewhat smaller or larger than expected. This might happen if you: Have a high body mass index, Have a full bladder, Are carrying twins or other multiples. In other cases, fundal height that measures smaller or larger than expected — or increases more or less quickly than expected — could indicate conditions such as: Slow fetal growth (intrauterine growth restriction), Rapid fetal growth, Too little amniotic fluid (oligohydramnios), Too much amniotic fluid (polyhydramnios), Uterine fibroids, A baby prematurely descending into the pelvis or settling into a breech or other unusual position. Depending on the circumstances, your health care provider might recommend an ultrasound or other tests to determine what's causing the unusual measurements. Remember, fundal height is only a tool for gauging fetal growth and gestational age — it's not an exact science. Typically, fundal height measurements offer reassurance of a baby's steady growth. If you're concerned about your fundal height measurements, ask your health care provider for details. ...Read more

Is triangular shape of gestational sac normal?

Is triangular shape of gestational sac normal?

It depends: The triangular shape is made by the uterine cavity, so depending on the angle of the ultrasound shot, it is possible for the sac to appear triangular in shape. This is to be distinguished from an 'irregular' shaped sac which invariable suggests a poor outcome for the embryo. ...Read more

'UTERUS IS ANTEVERTED & BULKY IN SIZE WITH NORMAL SHAPE & ECHOTEXTURE. ENDOMETRIAL THICKNESS IS NORMAL. MYOMETRIAL ECOGENICITY IS HOMOGENOUS. NO FOCAL?

'UTERUS IS ANTEVERTED & BULKY IN SIZE WITH NORMAL SHAPE & ECHOTEXTURE. ENDOMETRIAL THICKNESS IS NORMAL. MYOMETRIAL ECOGENICITY IS HOMOGENOUS. NO FOCAL?

Not entirely sure of: how best to answer your question. Antroverted is the more common position (80%) of the uterus and size varies. I cannot give specific medical advice on your particular health, but fibroids or other tumors or abnormalities would be expected to have abnormal thickness, irregular shape (NON-homogenous) and spots of problems (focal abnormality) .. and the report implies nothing abnormal. ...Read more

The endometrium measured 1.7cm in thickness. Age 39. Period 16-20 March 2015. Also anteverted uterus measuring 9.7X8.8X7.8 cm seen. Bad?

The endometrium measured 1.7cm in thickness. Age 39. Period 16-20 March 2015. Also anteverted uterus measuring 9.7X8.8X7.8 cm seen. Bad?

Enlarged uterus: From what she described her uterus is mildly enlarged. The endometrium measuring 1.7 cm is not unusual at this point in her cycle. Technically you should be somewhere midcycle and the endometrium will be thickening in this phase. As long as they were not able to see a polyp within the endometrial cavity or a fibroid tumor which is benign, then I would proceed conservatively. ...Read more

Is the measurement of occipitofrontal diameter at 44.4mm within normal measurement range for 16weeks 2 days gestation?

Is the measurement of occipitofrontal diameter at 44.4mm within normal measurement range for 16weeks 2 days gestation?

Atypical measure: Not only do we not typically measure the occipitofrontal diameter, but i can imagine no reason to be getting such a detailed scan at 16 weeks. Is there a concern that you are not mentioning? The standard head measurments are the bpd and the hc (biparietal diameter and head circumference). ...Read more

What does subtle heterogeneity and increased thickness of anterior fundal myometrium mean please?

Description: It sounds like you are trying to interpret an ultrasound. This is a description of what the uterus looks like. It needs to be taken in conjunction with the clinical picture. Are you mid cycle, pregnant or just lost a pregnancy, looking for a tumor? It just means that there are different components of material in the uterus like old and new blood in the tissue being the most common. ...Read more

During routine echocardiogram, is the ejection fraction usually calculated using the m-mode estimate, or the 2d volume (tracing the lv) measurement?

During routine echocardiogram, is the ejection fraction usually calculated using the m-mode estimate, or the 2d volume (tracing the lv) measurement?

Either: Both methods are used. However, it is generally accepted that tracing the endocardial borders of the left ventricle at end systole and end diastole in two separate planes gives the best estimate of ejection fraction. When using only the m-mode tracing, there are many assumptions built into the estimate of ejection fraction that can challenge accuracy. ...Read more
