It can be acute urticaria, acute folliculitis or eczema... Treatments are often different for in those cases. Dryness: By far the most common cause is dryness. There are certainly other causes which could even be metabolic like thyroid, kidney, blood sugar. Try using only moisturizing soaps like Dove and find a cream or lotion you like but apply it frequently (many times a day if needed). See your doctor if that doesn't help. ...Read more

More likely dry skin: Try applying moisturizer on skin immediately after bathing to see if this helps. There is another condition which leads to itching and small hives after you get hot and sweaty and this condition may be relieved by taking an antihistamine. If problem persists, see your doctor. It seems that both of you have been scratching really bad that it leaves scar. Itching by itself does not leave scar. You should come see a local doctor to be evaluated and treated.
