Have a skin abscess on my back that's warm to the touch and painful. Will it go away on own or does it need treatment?
I keep getting skin abscess/boils. I've had several surgeries to have them removed. Any suggestions on how to prevent them?

Best is to call the provider, and get a re-check on the area to assure it is not worsening or getting infected. The provider who did the I&D knows your clinical case best and "first hand, " and will be able to more adequately provide your care. Good luck. ...Read more

Hi I have a skin abscess for a year now. I have it in multiple places. Larger than 1/2 inch is it serious?
Maybe serious: It sounds like you may be carrying a virulent strain of staph or strep bacteria. Or if the abscesses are limited to certain areas like the groin or armpits, you might have hidradenitis suppurativa, an autoimmune disorder. Either could be serious. Culture tests for staph/strep and perhaps consultation with a dermatologist or infectious diseases specialist may be advisable. See your doctor. ...Read more
