I slipped and fell cracked head 12 staples now mri shows mild scattered punctate white matter foci abnormalities . Should I be concerned ?

I slipped and fell cracked head 12 staples now mri shows mild scattered punctate white matter foci abnormalities . Should I be concerned ?

Not enough info: The MRI is complex exam with multiple separate scans that show different things. It is very common to see a few scattered white spots which are not clinically important. Further Eval needed: If this was his first seizure ever, then he needs additional evaluation with a pediatric neurologist. Workup may include an MRI of the brain, EEG or other testing. More than likely, the lumps on his head are the result of the seizure and are related to mild head trauma. I would recommend that he see a pediatric neurologist. ...Read more

Can you tell me if there are other ways to detect vascular or neural abnormalities in the head other than a CT scan or brain mr?

Can you tell me if there are other ways to detect vascular or neural abnormalities in the head other than a CT scan or brain mr?

Those are good: Mri really is best at evaluating for neural or vascular abnormalities. With contrast, they can do an mra (mr angiogram). One alternative would be a traditional angiogram where a catheter is inserted into a major vessel that goes to the brain and dye can be injected (much more invasive than an mra). That can see vascular abnomalies, but not neural isseus. ...Read more
