Which opening?: Are you talking about the internal or external cervical os? F you just feel the string, you are OK. If you feel more than the string, the IUD is malpositioned. You should not feel the hub at the external os ("opening"). It is no longer trustworthy, and may require removal/replacement. It is in not clear in the history of what you have given as to why. You need to see someone who is aware of what they are looking at and appropriate equipment. See your doctor and get a dx if there is anything abnormal. May have just have been irritation after excoriating something.
