Sinusitis Amoxicillin Dosage
I was prescribed 1000mg of amoxicillin 3x/day for sinusitis. Is that a normal dose? It seems extremely high. I’m worried about side effects.
Not the best choice: Amoxicillin alone is generally ineffective for bacterial sinusitis. Call your doctor for another one- perhaps augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) (amox-clav). Another possibility is that the infection is viral and antibiotics aren't going to treat it no matter which one you take. The vast majority of sinus infections are viral and need to just "run their course". ...Read more
Depends: Depending on the situation, treatment in childhood starts at 10-14 days and if improvement is slow another week may be added. The problem of resistant organisms is seen occasionally & lack of any improvement in 3-5 days indicate need to use an alternate treatment. ...Read more
YIKES: Nasal nebulized antibiotics have been tried, but there's no good evidence that they're any better than oral antibiotics. Crushing and snorting antibiotics sounds like a bad idea. You'd probably wind up swallowing most of it, anyway. ...Read more
My daughter was given amoxicillin for bronchitis and sinusitis. She is having extremely watery bowels. Is yhis from the medicine? What should I do?
Antibiotic diarrhea: Definitely you need to speak to your daughters pediatrician about this. Most antibiotic associated diarrhea is a mild nuisance, but this sounds more serious so I would call today. You should check your childs 'volume status' -noting color of urine, how much, whether she makes many tears or not. She likely is dehydrated from this and I would take action now. ...Read more
My daughter was diagnosed wt sinusitis yesterday and prescribed amoxicillin! She's 6. She has been throwing up every since... Is this ok?
On amoxicillin for sinusitis. I'm on the 8th day and I am still coughing like crazy at night from this sinus infection. When will the cough go away?
Better antibiotic: Sinusitis is better treated with Levaquin (levofloxacin) since its tissue availability deep in sinus is better. Amoxicillin is better for soft tissue swelling/infection. Consult with your doctor for treatment of the cause of your sinusitis. Treat the cause, not the symptoms. ...Read more
What home remedies can I use to cure a bladder infection? I'm also taking leftover antibiotics from sinusitis (amoxicillin), is that okay?
Maybe not, however: Bladder infections are generally from a particular type of bacteria which may not be susceptible to amoxicillin. As far as home remedies are concerned, cranberry juice has been used for years for this condition but it should not be used as a substitute for antibiotic therapy. See you physician always before starting any therapies (especially expired amoxicillin). ...Read more

I have sinusitis strep throat, broncitis all at once. Seen 2 dr. I have amoxicillin, flowvent and a sinus spray. When would I know to go to emerg if need?
Give it time:
If you have all of those symptoms at once you most likely have a viral upper respiratory infection. These take 10-14 days to fully resolve.
You only need to see you doctor again if you are getting much WORSE, no need to see them if they are the same but still there. A viral cough can last up to 28 days and still be normal. ...Read more
If u are supposed to take 875mg of Amoxcillin twice a day but are only getting 875mg once a day is this still going to help the sinusitis?
Sinusitis: Antibiotics are often unnecessary in treating sinusitis. As important are nasal irrigation, decongestants, possibly nasal steroids and control of pain and swelling with NSAIDS. Amoxicillin has a half-life of about an hour. About 60% of a dose is excreted in urine within 6 to 8 hours. Detectable serum levels are present for 8 hours but not necessarily in therapeutic concentrations or in sinuses. ...Read more
Can u get flare up symptoms from missing two night doses of Amoxcillin? Cause I take it for sinusitis. Supposed to take 875mg two times a day.
Is 875mg of Amoxcillin enough to take care of sinusitis? Cause I'm on one tablet twice a day. When should I feel better? Today will be day 3 on it.
Saline irrigation: If the bacteria are sensitive to Amoxicillin, the dose is adequate. Usually by day 3-4 a person will notice some improvement. However, sometimes, sinusitis may require up to 3 weeks' treatment to totally clear. It will help to do sterile saline nasal rinses. Lying on your back and leaning head over bed below body, spray into nostril then move your head to both sides and back, then gently blow. ...Read more
I'm prone 2 sinusitis & alergys. I live in a windy dry climate. What can I do besides keep taking amoxicillan?
Amoxicillin 4 sinus: 100% agree with Dr. Stephen Rothstein. For sinusitis caused by virus infection, no antibiotic treatment is needed. Acute sinus infection from bacteria is usually treated with antibiotic and Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) is the first chose. Amoxicillin is also acceptable. ...Read more
Can SSRI make u feel hot? Cause I'm on fluoxetine and feel hot but could be from my sinusitis I don't know cause I'm on Amoxcillin to.
Hot inside or out?: Fever is different from surface heat. Is the antibiotic for a bacterial infection that had fever as a symptom? If not, it's useless. But discuss it w/ Dr - don't just stop. Same w/ the SSRI. Anytime you get a medication make sure you understand what to look for - good and bad. What to do and not to do. The more you know, the better it works. Ask. Even if Dr is busy, it's part of your Tx. ...Read more
