Amoxicillin did not treat my sinusitis, what can I do?

Amoxicillin did not treat my sinusitis, what can I do?

Not the best choice: Amoxicillin alone is generally ineffective for bacterial sinusitis. Call your doctor for another one- perhaps augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) (amox-clav). Another possibility is that the infection is viral and antibiotics aren't going to treat it no matter which one you take. The vast majority of sinus infections are viral and need to just "run their course". ...Read more

Insufflating (snorting) amoxicillin? Has anyone done that to treat sinusitis?

Insufflating (snorting) amoxicillin? Has anyone done that to treat sinusitis?

YIKES: Nasal nebulized antibiotics have been tried, but there's no good evidence that they're any better than oral antibiotics. Crushing and snorting antibiotics sounds like a bad idea. You'd probably wind up swallowing most of it, anyway. ...Read more

My daughter was given amoxicillin for bronchitis and sinusitis. She is having extremely watery bowels. Is yhis from the medicine? What should i do?

Antibiotic diarrhea: Definitely you need to speak to your daughters pediatrician about this. Most antibiotic associated diarrhea is a mild nuisance, but this sounds more serious so I would call today. You should check your childs 'volume status' -noting color of urine, how much, whether she makes many tears or not. She likely is dehydrated from this and I would take action now. ...Read more

On amoxicillin for sinusitis. I'm on the 8th day and I am still coughing like crazy at night from this sinus infection. When will the cough go away?

Better antibiotic: Sinusitis is better treated with Levaquin (levofloxacin) since its tissue availability deep in sinus is better. Amoxicillin is better for soft tissue swelling/infection. Consult with your doctor for treatment of the cause of your sinusitis. Treat the cause, not the symptoms. ...Read more

What home remedies can I use to cure a bladder infection? I'm also taking leftover antibiotics from sinusitis (amoxicillin), is that okay?

What home remedies can I use to cure a bladder infection? I'm also taking leftover antibiotics from sinusitis (amoxicillin), is that okay?

Maybe not, however: Bladder infections are generally from a particular type of bacteria which may not be susceptible to amoxicillin. As far as home remedies are concerned, cranberry juice has been used for years for this condition but it should not be used as a substitute for antibiotic therapy. See you physician always before starting any therapies (especially expired amoxicillin). ...Read more
