Just had sinus surgery and was wondering how long i will be sore in xhest and throat area and what i can do if saline rinsedont get all blood outnose?

Suggestions: Not sure why chest should hurt unless muscle relaxants used during surgery. Sore throat either from breathing tube or bloody drainage into it.Expect bloody crusting for 2-3 weeks as it takes about 4-6 weeks for the sinus and nasal lining to recover to the point of self-cleaning. Until then be consistent with saline rinses. Afrin spray for 3-4 days may help saline get into sinuses better to clean. ...Read more

Concerned?: You may have contracted a cold which can cause the symptoms described. However if the fever is over 103 degree then I would suspected an infection. A rare bit problem from surgery may be a sponge left behind causing an infection. If the problem gets worse or lasts >a few days, you need to check with the surgeon again and perhaps even insist on an imaging study on the sinus. ...Read more

I have sinus infection and am on my 2nd rd of amox. My neck glands are extremely uncomfortable. Is this a normal part of the sinus infection?

Viral: A viral infection is suggested as the cause of the neck gland symptoms and this type of infection is not affected by antibiotics and usually just runs its course. If you have a bacterial sinus infection following a head cold, Amoxicillin may not be effective and a stronger antibiotic like avellox or Levaquin (levofloxacin) may be needed. Discuss this with your physician if your sinusitis doesn't improve. ...Read more

3 neck glands swollen on my right side. No pain, but a lot of drainage and occasional stuffy nose. Sinus infection or viral infection?

Could be either, or?: You are correct in presuming that typically swollen lymph nodes are due to an infection nearby. Bacterial infections may be more likely to cause this than viral, but both can do it. Laryngeal/throat infection more likely to cause than higher up sinuses. Watch these glands. If they don't resolve in 2-3 weeks, have your doctor examine you. Sometimes enlarged lymph nodes are tumor, not infection. ...Read more
