Sinus Phlegm Taste
Depends: If symptoms have lasted less than 7days, use Ibuprofen 400 3 times a day for 3days, then as needed. Take 2 showers a day, as warm as you can tolerate, run the water right on your face to heat and and humidify the mucous, so you can cough it up and blow your nose more easily, then put mentholatum right under your nostrils. The eucalyptus in mentholatum works. If symptoms worse and > 10d, see doc. ...Read more

Hello there, this morning I woke up and coughed up brown/red like phlegm. I have recently had some Sinus congestion issues.?????
That's common: Having sinus congestion or even pneumonia can make you cough up various colored phlegm. The color doesn't necessarily tell us if it's infected or not. I would say, though, if it's red, keep an eye on it. If you think it's blood or notice frank blood, then you should be seen. Pneumonia is a common cause of coughing up blood, or hemoptysis. ...Read more

Sinus infection?: Hard to say if you have sinusitis vs. A bacterial sinus infection. Most sinusitis is viral or allergic & therefore doesn't improve with an antibiotic. If you have had congestion for 7-10 days or longer that is worsening it is more likely to be bacterial. Other signs of bacterial sinus infection are fever, sometimes a toothache, failure to improve with decongestants, and unilateral facial pain. ...Read more

It is common for the phlegm to have a bad smell. This is usually due to odor causing bacteria that are present, especially when one is dealing with sinusitis. Once the infection clears, the "stinky" phlegm will go away as well. Make sure you see your doctor. You will likely need at least a two week course of antibiotics.
Take care. ...Read more

Need more: You need to get a nasal steroid +/- a nasal antihistamine plus some allergy eye drops. If your symptoms are that severe from cedar, you may consider an allergy work-up as well to prepare for the next season. Good luck. ...Read more
After punctured sinus during rt canal, does puncture wound ever heal? 3 mnths since. Still cough up green phlegm & sore cheek. How to rid infection?
May need antibiotics: You may have an oral-antral fistula (communication between the oral cavity and the maxillary sinus). You refer to a 3 month period with associated signs of infection. This may indicate a need for antibiotic therapy such as oral administration of penicillin-like antibiotics. The quiescence of infection may help the communication to heal and close. If it still persists you may need surgical closure. ...Read more
Hi have had a cold for 2 months on and off with sinus. At the back of the throat and into the noise I hear like crackling sound popping above the soft plate like there is phlegm stuck or something?
Ears and sinuses: The crackling and popping sound is likely to come from blocked Eustachian tubes. Their job is to equalize pressure between the middle ear and the outside world. However, inflammation can cause them to swell shut. Chronic nasal and sinus congestion are probably coming from either chronic sinusitis or allergies. Might try an antihistamine or decongestant, but consider seeing your doctor to see if andecongestant, but consider seeing your doctor to see if antibiotic therapy appropriate ...Read more

Small streaks of blood in phlegm/spit returned after 10 days on doxycycline for sinus infection. Not coughing it up do I need more meds?
Sinus disease: The sinuses are aerated chambers that often get closed off and infected. Antibiotics are helpful but the important thing is to open them up again so they will drain. This is often achieved by using gentle saline solution or inhaled nasal steroids. Make sure the air you are breathing is not too dry. Occasionally topical antibiotics will help with the healing. ...Read more

See a doctor: It sounds like you have seen doctors. How you can be sure you do not have an allergy is beyond me. Suggest that you try nasal saline rinses twice a day with a neti-pot (see your pharmacist), and perhaps combine that with a nasal steroid spray. If you are a smoker or around second hand smoke, stop. The material you bring up needs to be examined, and you need a face to face with a caring doctor. ...Read more
