In anatomy, a sinus is a cavity within a bone or other tissue. Most commonly found in the bones of the face and connecting with the nasal cavities. Sinus (anatomy), description of the general term paranasal sinuses, air cavities in the cranial bones, especially those near the nose, including: the maxillary sinuses, also called the maxillary antra and the largest of the ...Read more
Sinus: Upper back molar teeth can often have roots which protrude into the maxillary sinus cavity, in the upper jaw and cheekbone. A root canal in an upper back molar tooth could result in a tiny opening into the sinus or filling material in the sinus cavity. If you're concerned about it, return to see the dentist who performed the root canal and discuss it. You may need to see an endodontist. ...Read more
I did my root canal surgery 6 years ago and still have the temporary caping only. Will it do any harm? I left it like that because I got a sinus issue
See Dentist: If it has not broken down and leaked already, you may still be ok. Typically the tooth will be at a very high risk for fracture and loss of seal and re infection. You may have been extremely lucky. Important to see your Dentist to check this and complete treatment with definitive restoration. Good luck. ...Read more
I had root canal on #5, then it broke and was crowned 3 month ago. Can it cause inflammation/blockage in maxillary sinus? What tests needed?
The pain can be easily confused because the two areas are so close. Sinus infection usually bilaterally, the sinus pain is exacerbated by lowering the head and is increased by stepping hard on the heel (climbing stairs)
the diagnosis is confirmed by appropriate imaging.
If pain persists, make sure to get medical help immediately. ...Read more
What are possible complications of a chronic infection in the sinus because of a perforation from a root canal?
See Endodontist: It depends upon what was placed into your sinus. If it was the disinfecting solution the denist uses to clean your canals then the sinus usually recovers with no intervention. However, if the 'filling material' of the root canal was placed in the sinus then you need the help of an oral surgeon or ent. Since you said this is 'chronic' I would suggest getting this looked at soon. ...Read more
They treated my root canal at 2014 but the pain never stoped Resent X-rays show that there is extra filling into the sinus coz severpain and swilling?
Second Opinion: If you had root canal therapy in 2014 and continued to have pain following treatment, you should have been re-evaluated to determine why you were still having pain. If a recent x-ray shows excess RCT filling material in the sinus, that certainly could be contributing to the problem. If your dentist does not address it, you may want to get another opinion from an endodontist. ...Read more
Will face pressure and random gum pain subside after having a crown adjusted? The tooth already had a root canal. Why is there sinus like pressure?
Possibly: If the problem is due to a poor bite, then yes, you should be fine. If the problem is due to a recurrent infection or a fractured tooth, then those problems will have to be addressed. ...Read more
Years ago I had a root canal and dentist not sure if got all root out and temp cap now swollen also feel like I have a sinus infection could it be a?
Needs evaluation: It is possible that an incomplete root canal could develop an abscess years later. Sinus infections can contribute to tooth pain. Teeth that have had root canal treatment and don’t have a permanent crown on top for many years could have a crack. You should see a dentist for evaluation; infections in the head and face areas can be serious. ...Read more
After root canal on canine tooth #11, iam curious to know what are the symptoms/how it feels if the drill touches or drills into the sinus cavity floor?
Not going to happen: The root of tooth #11 lies under the floor of the nose and not in the sinus cavity. You should be numb with local anesthetic so you will feel pressure, but should not feel pain. I have never seen or heard of drilling into the sinus thru the six front teeth under the nose. ...Read more

Dentist won't extract my 2nd molar tooth bec I have sinus approximation. She insist on root canal. But I don't have budget. Is extraction not possible?

Would root canal treatment on # 11or # 14 molar teeth touches the nerve or cause any issue with sinus. I am hesitant to do procedure. Feedback please.
Not likely: Root canal treatment is meant to eliminate an infection found in and around the tooth. This infection can have a negative effect on the sinus. Rct can remove an infection that began in the tooth and spread to the sinus area. It is highly unlikely that this treatment will have a detrimental effect on the sinus. For specific details about your case it would be best to consult an endodontist. ...Read more

I have symptoms of sinusitis with mild facial swelling. A year ago, I had a root canal on the same side on the upper molar number two with a crown placed. That tooth is tender now. What could be the cause of swelling, tooth or sinus? I am not sure whom to
Dentist First: From you history, I would start with the root canal tooth, then work from there. It is possible, given your timeline, that the root canal possibly failed, and the infection recurred. If so, treatment is necessary and may allow you to still save the tooth. It is possible it's a sinus infection, but my first guess would be the rct tooth. You want a "pa x-ray", digital if possible, or ct scan. ...Read more
Had a root canal 4 yrs ago. Still hurts to brush, bad head pressure, sore jaw and sinus feels stuffed. Should I extract it?
Ent and no sinus issues been to dentist and had a old root canal removed and had some infection been on penicillin when I eat chruncy my ear plugs?
Ear problema: It's not a specific symptom to get plugged ears when eating crunchy. If, otherwise, you are doing well, I would not worry, just wait until you heal up and see how you feel then. If you have other symptoms - nasal congestion, drainage, facial pain, then you will need to address sinus issues and hopefully the ears will unplug once the sinus issues resolve. ...Read more

Who do you see when your dentist can't figure out what's wrong after root canals, extractions, sinus scan being normal, and still pain in gums/teeth?
Pain: The cause of pain in any part of your body is sometimes difficult to isolate. Do you have pain in specific teeth? Do those teeth have root canal therapy or are they vital? It may be necessary to visit an endodontist to re-evaluate any teeth with root canal therapy. Tooth fractures can sometimes cause pain without being detected. There may also be a neurological component to address. ...Read more
What to do about chronic sinus infections after root canal/crown. Dentist is dismissive of the problem. 2 years ago I cracked a tooth because of a deep cavity I was unaware of (that parts my responsibility) the tooth was also infected. I had a root canal
I: I would recommend getting an evaluation by a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Their training would enable them to determine if the 2 year history of sinus infections is directly related to your dental health. Obviously I am not in a position to examine you or review xrays of the teeth and sinuses, but 2 years seems a long time to have chronic sinus infections without significant oral findings other than decay. It is normal for the root tips of the upper back teeth to be close to the sinus, in fact, in many cases the roots actually protrude into the sinus. That is why these teeth can sometimes be symptomatic with sinusitis. The oms can give you an opinion as to whether the tooth should be removed or it there are other options for treatment. ...Read more

Can a root canal trigger sinus infection w high fever and unproductive cough? Headaches, sweats, sneezing, fever, runny nose, itchy throat, thank you!
It's ok: When doing a root canal, your dentist places a clamp around your teeth, and sometimes this creates some gum pain for a few days after treatment. They also use some irrigation solutions that can cause the tissue to turn white. It is a temporary condition, and should soon resolve. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call your dentist, and they can coach you more. ...Read more
Yes and No: You probably had you mouth open for quite a while and your muscle is sore. Your gum may be irritated from the clamp. The disinfectant used to clean the root canal can irritate as well. If you don't feel better after 2 days call your doctor (or sooner if you're concerned). Meanwhile, take whatever you dentist prescribed or Ibuprofen 600mg every 6 hours. You should not be in extreme pain, howeve. ...Read more
