I'm taking cefuroxim for a sinus infection, and now am having some trouble with urination.

Probably unrelated: Cefuroxime, if one reads the fda approved side-effect list, may cause urinary tract symptoms rarely, but this is usually a report based upon simultaneous illnesses occurring at the same time. In your case would look to see if this is true as a first measure. Consult with the doctor who rx'd the cefuroxime. ...Read more

Could leukocytes show up on urine dip from a sinus infection?

Could leukocytes show up on urine dip from a sinus infection?

Wrong test site: A urine dip stick picks up white blood cells that are present in urine if there is an inflammatory process in the urinary tract. It does so by testing for an enzyme (leukocyte esterase) present in white cells. The urinary system is a filter of the blood stream but usually active white cells are very sticky and would not make it from the circulation to the urine.? Sinus aspirate? ...Read more

Not congested, can smell still but can't really taste anything. I'm not sick. Can this be related to sinus infection without congestion?

Loss of taste: You are describing loss of taste only, not smell. Usually, a sinus infection comes with congestion, nasal discharge, postnasal drip, and loss of smell. Then, taste is secondarily affected. You have to get evaluated by your doctor and probably an ENT to look into your loss of taste. ...Read more

I had sinuplasty 5 days ago, I feel like I have a sinus infection again! I don't know if it's still swollen, or if things are trying to drain! ?

Postop symptoms: You just had sinus surgery 5 days ago. Even though you had a more minimal procedure, you had sinus surgery. You will have some pain and definitely it is swollen in there for a while. Use a sinus rinse bottle at least twice per day, take tylenol (acetaminophen) or stronger pain med at night. Call your surgeon. It would not be unusual to stay on antibiotics for a while after surgery. ...Read more

Could I have a sinus infection? My nosed has been stuffed up for 3 weeks and im getting head aches that don't go away

Based: Based on your symptoms it is more probable that you are having an allergic sinus / nasal reaction to seasonal allergens (pollen). An infection is also probable but less likely. Hello...I know this may sound odd but please don't be upset when I ask this. Can swallowing semen cause a sinus infection?

Infection: Generalized upper respiratory infections (uri's)including sinus infections, are caused by contracting the infectious agent (bacteria or viral) from an individual carrying the infection. The act of swallowing semen may not necessarily cause a sinus infection, but more likely it is inhalation of the agent during close contact with an infected individual, like heavy breathing, open mouth kissing, etc. ...Read more

I thought my sinus congestion was allergies but it hasn't gone away. It's been almost a week now, could it be a sinus infection?

Possibly: Keep in mind that allergies, particularly during peak periods like April-June, can linger far beyond a week's time. A sinus infection is usually considered after two weeks, and only if there is significant nasal drainage, occasionally fever, but also facial pressure/pain, post-nasal drip and fatigue. Otherwise, if you have known allergies, they are likely the culprit. ...Read more

I have an extremely painful sinus infection. No money, no insurance. Otc meds don't work. How can I treat it at home and get relief?

Difficult question: Sinus infection is the result of blockage of the ostia (openings) of the air containing cavities in the face communicating with the nose. Therefore the treatment is ventilation and drainage. Or more specifically, the blockage has to be relieved. I can not believe that a community hospital emergency room could not help. If there is truly a sinus infection, you need good medical treatment. ...Read more

I'm now taking Cipro (ciprofloxacin) because Bactrim didn't help my sinus infection. Cipro (ciprofloxacin) helped me before when I had sinusitis so will it help me now?

Cipro (ciprofloxacin) may or may: Not help, depending on the type of infection. With sinusitis, Cipro (ciprofloxacin) is not a first choice treatment. However if it helped you before, it certainly may do that again. I would make sure I see a healthcare provider sooner than later if you don't feel well after, say, 5 days being on Cipro (ciprofloxacin). And you usually need antibiotic treatment for 10-14 days minimum for bacterial sinusitis. ...Read more
