I had a bad sinus infection on a recent flight and experienced severe ear pain on landing. Now my ears keep cracking and popping every time i swallow.

Decongestant: You might try irrigating your sinuses with a saline solution using a neti-pot, and also taking some Pseudoephedrine (ask your friendly pharmacist). If that does not work there is oxymetozaline spray, but this can be dangerous if used too often. If these simple things don't solve the problem you might want to see an ENT doctor. Good luck. ...Read more

How do I unclog my ears if I am currently recovering from a sinus infection and have extremely clogged ears?

I hope you mean...: I hope you mean get rid of the "clogging feeling", not your ears! all kidding aside, things you do to relieve pressure on an airplane are helpful here. Chew gum, yawn, "pop" your ears by plugging your nose and shut your mouth and blow (this may be a little uncomfortable at first, but is really helpful). Time also helps, as sometimes it just takes a while for the body to clean up the stuff after. ...Read more

Have sinus infection. On antiobiotics for the last 5 days. Both ears blocked. What can I do to unblock ears?

Can take time!: Sinus infections are stubborn, and can take a while to treat. As you've found, your ears may feel blocked, too. Using Normal Saline nose drops can help. Over-the-counter saline sprays are marketed as "simply sinus" or "little noses" - marketed for kids. Guaifeniscen (sold as the brand mucinex) can loosen secretions and make you more comfortable. See your doctor if the ear blockage persists. ...Read more

I was diagnosed with a double ear and sinus infection. I have a 2 month old that has a cold. Is it safe to be around him? I don't want himto get worse.

Contagiousness: Your 2 month old has all the immunity that you do until 6 months. He can get the same viral colds as you, but he is not at risk for the secondary infections that you have (ear infections, sinusitis). As with any cold in a child of this age, you have to be on the look out for developing an ear infection from his cold, but he won't get it from you. ...Read more
