I started prednisone yesterday because of a lung and sinus infection I can't get rid of. But now my legs and arms are very achy is there any relation?

Antibiotic allergy?: I have seen prednisone used to open up the airways and help to breath easier, but it is not known to cause pain. I have seen patients that have joint and muscle pain due to a reaction to antibiotics. Were you prescribed anything else to treat the infection? Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) DS? Levaquin? ...Read more

After having a steroid shot for sinus infection in my hip I've been having lower back, buttocks, and back of both legs pain. Normal?

Not normal: But as well unlikely to be related to the shot, even if the needle hits a nerve on side, it wouldn't cause all those symptoms on both side and lower back, and sometimes the symptoms you described are treated with steroids. Backache: There are several reasons that this could be the case. I wake up everyday feeling like I have a sinus infection. My nose and head hurts, I'm achy and sleepy. Would a humidifier help?

Probably not: You do not tell us how long these symptoms have been present. If they have been of recent onset, they may be due to a viral infection. If longer, they may be upper respiratory allergy. You need a diagnosis by either an ENT doctor or an allergist. Finally, you can not by yourself make a diagnosis of sinusitis. Again, my advice is see one of the above specialists. ...Read more

Need to be seen.: Your situation has nuance. You are right to be cautious. First, CT the sinuses, to confirm active sinusits; if minimal, that's reassuring. Complications like orbital celluitis is serious. And, given your recent antibiotic history, resistant bacteria may be present. Furthermore, data questions role of Abx in chronic (>12wk) sinusitis. I'm just getting over a sinus infection. Still having headaches the top of my head temples down the back to my neck. My arms neck and back are achy?

See a doctor: Preferably start with your primary care doctor. The question is whether or not the sinus infection has been adequately managed or has extended beyond the sinuses. All of the symptoms you describe may be due to tension of holding your head in a single position while you had severe sinus disease, but the best thing to do is to see a doctor. ...Read more

Started with sinus infection now have respiratory infection and body aches from head to legs. Flu or pneumonia?

Maybe It's Flumonia: Good question. And could be both. But if, as you say, it started just in the sinuses and then spread, it's less likely classic flu. And if it spread somehow into your lungs and caused an infection then you'd probably feel pretty bad, so I'd suggest you get examined by a doctor, who will decide what, if any, test (s) he'd decide to get. So, it sounds like it's time to be seen in person! ...Read more

How can I treat a sinus infection?

Irrigate: I assume you mean treating this yourself. Sinus health is all about drainage; if they don't drain, problems persist. You can use a nasal decongestant spray twice a day for 3-5 days; before and about 30 minutes after using it, rinse your nose with saline such as nasamist, entsol, or simply saline. If the sinus pressure increases, or the colored secretions last more than a week, see your doctor. ...Read more
