A canker sore is a painful, open sore in the mouth. Canker sores are white or yellow and surrounded by a bright red area. They are benign (not cancer). Canker sores can run in families. They may also be linked to problems with the body's immune (defense) system. The sores may occur after a mouth injury due to dental work, aggressive tooth cleaning, or biting the tongue or cheek. Canker sores can be triggered by emotional stress, dietary deficiencies (especially iron, folic acid, or vitamin B-12), menstrual periods, hormonal changes, food allergies, and similar situations. More than one likely: There are more than one type or mouth sores usually related to hiv. Most have more to do with being immunosupressed- like candidiasis (ulcers caused by yeast infections), cold and herpetic ulcers as well as leukoplakia ("hairy tounge"). The onset of a single small lesion that has healed is not an indicator that you have contracted hiv. If you are still fearful, the best remedy is testing. ...Read more

Lesion on tongue: It could be an inflamed taste bud. Anything that is inflamed will turn brown due to the smoking itself. I would have an ENT check it to make sure it is nothing. Do not worry, it does not seem that big by your description. If you need larger removal, worst case scenario, it may not affect your speech and swallowing.
