Is target Up&Up formula that's made to be similar to similac just as good as actual Similac? If so, is it ok to alternate between the two?
Can't tell: In the US, name-brand formulas and generic formulas are all considered fine to drink. Individual babies may have specific preferences due to tummy issues or cow milk protein allergies. There is no way to tell if one formula is "as good" as another, or better, or worse. There is no standard definition of "as good", and there are rarely any side-by-side comparison studies (no Coke vs. Pepsi tests). ...Read more
Formula: There are several size containers, that powder comes in. The regular size, 12.5-9oz can makes 92-4oz, which makes just over 11, 8oz bottles. This is making the formula, as directed. The other form is concentrate. These are 13oz cans, that are diluted with 13oz of water, to give 26oz, or just over 3, 8oz bottles. Ready to feed is the other form, which is self explanatory. ...Read more
Is there a big difference between similac sensitive & similac advance formula, would it cause problems to use one up then switch to the other?
Maybe, maybe not : Both formulas have the same protein and components except for the type of sugar. Iff your kid is on the sensitive, a switch to the regular may cause spit up or other issues. If on the regular, using the sensitive would probably not create any issues. Some vendors will trade out the product if you ask. ...Read more
If i mix a scoop of similac advance formula and a scoop of similac sensitivity formula and feed it to my baby, what effect will it have on him?
Not a problem: The difference between the two formulas are that one has lactose as the sugar source and the other does not. Also, the "curds and whey" ratio is a bit different. Otherwise, they are both cow's milk based formulas with the same fat contents. So if your baby is sensitive or intolerant of lactose, he might get a bit gassy drinking the lactose containing formula. But otherwise, no problem at all. ...Read more

My baby is 7 months old.Now I am giving him similac advance 2 but he is constipated. What should I do?
Formula intolerance: You did not specify how many days/weeks old your newborn is. Aside from him not tolerating the formula, he maybe just taking too much formula per feeding. Other common causes are acid reflux, pyloric stenosis, urinary tract infection in girls, etc. If the vomiting persists, bring him to his pediatrician. ...Read more
It Depends: The most common cause of spitting up in newborns is over feeding. Make sure you are not giving him too much, which can easily happen if you give your baby formula. The next most common cause is reflux or the baby maybe coming down with an illness. There are also other medical problems that need immediate attention that can cause this. I suggest you call your pediatrician to get this sorted out. ...Read more
My baby's body is producing to much salt and sugar, is there a lot of difference between similac advance and total comfort ?
Metabolic disorders: Babies who have metabolic disorders and have imbalances of electrolytes and glucose require highly specialized formulas as prescribed by a pediatric specialist (genetics, gastroenterology, neonatology or endocrinology). It is dangerous to use formulas other than those recommended specifically for your babies medical problem. Similac Advance and Total Comfort are likely inappropriate. ...Read more
My baby is 4 weeks old and is both bottle and breastfed. Sometimes when i fed him the similac advance formular he brings it right back up?
Reflux is normal: Reflux is the term used for spitting up. All babies will reflux to some extent and this is normal. Babies will reflux formula more than breast milk, which is more easily digested. As long as the infant is otherwise feeding well, appears satisfied afterwards, and is wetting several diapers a day, there is no concern. If the reflux is excessive, forceful, or green-tinged, see your pediatrician. ...Read more
Is it possible for a baby to do well on similac advanced and at 7 weeks develop an allergy? Will he grow out of it? Could it be something else?
My 1 yr old is transitioning from similac advanced to organic whole milk. Rt now doing 1/3 milk, 2/3 form. He has gone from 1 bm per day to 3 or 4....
General diet change: The amount of fiber dictates a lot about the amount of stool you produce. The transition in his formula/milk intake is so minimal at this point with regard to amount of fiber, that i really doubt it has any bearing on how much stool production there is. More likely other changes in his diet to eating more fruits, veggies, grains and dietary fiber than an infant diet has led to the changes in poops. ...Read more
Why does my baby grunt and be stiff a lot?? He use to drink 4 oz r every two hours then his Dr. switch the milk to Similac Sensitive but still no inc
Normal vocal/stiff: Many infants have a large collection of noises they make with their airways. They really have no social conscience at all & are not concerned that it bothers us.They also stiffen on occasion when pissed, or whatever, because they have little else that they can do.As they grow older they have more defined abilities that can be applied to have have specific meanings ...Read more
Two week old daughter constant cry 4-5 hours nonstop; pedi said nothing wrong just gas. What should i do change formula? I use similac total comfort
Colic: the problem with babies who are colicky is that they tend to cry for a period of 3-4 hours at least 3-4 times per weeks. Colic can be treated with few methods, although not proven to be effective as documented in the literature. Try using probiotics. It helps to comfort the baby's stomach. Try massaging the baby's tummy. Also giving frequent baths. Change formula to spy formula might help. ...Read more
We have a new born 2 weeks old all today he is restless and now light brown yellowish diarrhea most of the day he eats similac advance ready to eat what can cause this and what to do?
My two month old baby is always uncomfortable every time feeding him similac powder formula i always notice not good in his tummy and green bm please hep?
Feeding issue? : Some children are cow's milk intolerant, because of course if you were meant to drink cow's milk you'd be born a cow. Gassiness, bloating, and stool changes are possible. Allergy to milk is also possible though less likely. Reflux is also less likely. Discuss this with your peds at your next well check, and see what issue needs to be addressed. ...Read more
Can my baby be lactose intolerant or is it something eles? My 2 month old daughter has been consuming similac advance since birth, as of last friday she has been having diarrhea and it has been very watery, the doc i went to said she might be lactose into
Lactose : Lactose intolerance is the lack of an intestinal enzyme called lactase and is the inability to digest lactose - the sugar found in milk and other dairy products. Babies are born with the lactase enzyme and most lactose intolerance does not occur until age 3 or older if at all. Symptoms can be bloating, cramps, diarrhea, nausea and poor growth in children. Some races such as asians and african americans are more susceptable to lactose intolerance than caucasians. 2%-3% of infants have milk allergy and the good news is that many of them outgrow in by 3-5 years of age. Milk allergy is actually the body's immune system recognizing cow milk protein in the intestines as a foreign substance and causing symptoms like loose, sometimes bloody stool, irritability, vomiting and food refusal. This usually occurs in the first few months of life. The incidence of milk allergy is lower in breast fed babies than formula fed babies, but some babies react to the cow's milk protein transferred through the mother's milk from the dairy in the mother's diet. Try either using similac with some rice cereal or the soy formula without rice cereal. If neither of these work, give her doctor a call. Good luck! ...Read more
My baby has constipation problem. Which one formula milk is good, celia expert or similac advance or ronalac?
I have been breastfeeding for 4 months and I am drying up. Do u recommend sam's club formula-off brand of similac advance?
Do what you must: Most formulas by that age will provide adequate nutritional support & all have pros & cons. If you have started one & baby seems to process it well, stick with it. Formulas are not interchangeable. If you examine the blends closely there are subtle differences, & babies gut may do well on one & poorly oon a very similar product. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
