2 days til my due date dilated to 4cm losing alot of mucus plug is that also thinning of the cervix?
Cervix Changes: The cervix dilates from 0 to 10 cm which is ready for delivery. The cervix also thins it starts out about 2-4 cm long and then we judge its thinning by percentages. You will hear 10% effaced (thinned), 50% effaced, completely effaced which means it is thinned all the way. Losing the mucous plug has to do with neither, it is just mucous in the cervix that is lost anytime prior to delivery. ...Read more

Can I ask to be induced at 37 weeks if I believe baby is too big already (7lbs) and cramped inside since I'm small? Cervix is thinning but no dilation
Unlikely to happen: Given the frequency of breathing problems in newborns induced at 37 wks, I think it unlikely you could talk your way into that one. I believe the american college of obgyn has issued guidelines that question the practice. Early delivery for fetal distress & various maternal complications is still considered good care. ...Read more

I am 21 weeks pregnant. I am having a lot of vaginal pressure and a little cramping in low abdomen. Cervix has already started thinning. Normal?
Premature labor: I assume that if you are aware that your cervix has been thinning is because you have already been checked. No, it is not normal to have these symptoms at 21 wks of gestation. Usually this could be associated with premature labor. Rest and observation is usually recommended. If your doctor is aware please follow his/her instructions as given. If you are having new symptoms call them asap or go to ed. ...Read more

What are the potential complications for infant born @ 28 weeks? My daughter is 21 weeks pregnant. Scans show the infant is developing normally. Her cervix is opening and thinning and the membranes are showing but not bulging. Her physicians gave two opti
Regarding the timing of a placement of a cerclage, I do not think that there is clear consensus on the utility at 21 weeks gestation, and the benefit/risk ratio must be weighed carefully and individually for each patient. In general, the presence of fetal membranes prolapsing through the external cervical os is a relative contraindication to the procedure because the risk of the accidental rupture of the membranes in this setting is great.
When premature labor develops and cannot be stopped, the health care team will prepare for a high-risk delivery and immediate resuscitation. The “special care†of a premature infant happens in a neonatal intensive care unit (nicu) and involves the treatment of every organ system in the baby. For example, the preemie baby’s temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, and oxygen saturation is constantly monitored. Soon after birth, the infant will probably need help via technology to feed, via a feeding tube, and breathe via a ventilator and/or supplemental oxygen administration. In addition, the infant may develop problems with digestion or infections. It is not uncommon for very premature infants to require a blood transfusion at some point during their course in the intensive care unit, and if there is a genetic reason that has contributed to the prematurity, those specific issues will be managed as well. Hospital care is needed until the infant is able to breathe without extra support, feed by mouth, and maintains body temperature and a stable or increasing body weight.
Babies born before 37 weeks gestation can have long-term medical or developmental concerns that continue into childhood or longer. In general, the earlier an infant is born and the smaller the infant is at birth the greater the risk of complications. However, it is impossible to predict a baby's long-term outcome based on gestational age or birth weight alone. ...Read more

Iv stopped ovulating & cervix is so high, hard to reach & closed. Is this a good sign. I can't take a test for another week.
For what reasons would a BBT spike not match up with other charted fertile signs, (including eggwhite CM, high/soft/open cervix, and positive OPK)?
Hi im due my af in a week. My cervix is really high and firm and my CM is white/creamy coloured and really thick. Is this a sign that im pregnant.?
Can't really tell: Pregnancy is always a possibility in a woman in her fertile years. Simple urine pregnancy tests are available at drugstores (a woman can do the test after missing a period or 3 weeks after sex). A woman can also go to a primary care doctor or an ob-gyn doctor for testing. If pregnant, the woman needs to set up routine appointments with the doctor that will be providing her prenatal care. ...Read more
Myths: No. Please review your health class lessons. A fetus is not connected to its mother for about fourteen days after conception. The mother's body has no symptoms from pregnancy until this time when the fetus is big enough to be sharing blood and chemicals with her. True early pregnancy is symptom free. Monitoring the cervix is a complete waste of time and energy! ...Read more
