Pregnancy (Definition)

When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

8 weeks into 2nd pregnancy and want to continue breastfeeding 8 mth old full time. Realistic? Feeling tired and eating well is hard a few days now.

8 weeks into 2nd pregnancy and want to continue breastfeeding 8 mth old full time. Realistic? Feeling tired and eating well is hard a few days now.

Depends: I have had several women in my practice who have been successful with nursing baby#1 until baby #2 is born. Most women, however, are very fatigued the first trimester, combine that with the demands of mothering an 8 month old, possible poor intake from morning sickness, maintaining your relationship with the father of the baby and your personal health, it sounds overwhelming. ...Read more

10 Weeks postpartum and exclusively breastfeeding. Had a period at 5 weeks. I'm 5 days late with thicker white dishcharge. Is this pregnancy?

Maybe. Maybe not.: It can be hard to tell if a woman is pregnant because some of the symptoms seen in early pregnancy can also happen in non-pregnant women. A urine pregnancy test gives a reliable result if done correctly. One can test about 3 weeks after sex (3 weeks after when conception might have occurred), or 1 week after missing a period. An Ob-Gyn doctor can evaluate any persistent or worrisome symptoms. ...Read more

Stopped breastfeeding 6 mo old & had what I thought was period. It lasted 2 days 48 days ago. No period again, neg pregnancy tests. Can I get preg?

Stopped breastfeeding 6 mo old & had what I thought was period. It lasted 2 days 48 days ago. No period again, neg pregnancy tests. Can I get preg?

Probably yes.: It can take up to 2 years for normal hormone levels to return to normal. Lactation does affect ability to get pregnant and the use of prolonged breastfeeding is an acceptable way to try to prevent subsequent pregnancies. Levels have to be normal usually to sustain pregnancy. If trying to get pregnant, I would discuss with your OB-GYN. ...Read more

Can taking a pregnancy test 14 days after sex be accurate had sex on the 26 of May.
I have no periods because I'm breastfeeding?

May be: If the result is positive, it is accurate. If it is negative, it may be that you tested too early. If the result is negative, repeat the test in 5-7 days. Use first morning urine and follow the instructions for the test carefully. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time, every time. You may consider implanted contraceptive, or IUD. Practice safe sex. Get HPV vaccine. ...Read more

I had a negative pregnancy test and I am breastfeeding, but I am 1week4days late after 42 days,I have heavy bleeding bright red blood. Is this normal?

Not unusual: If your period was late, there may have been additional build up of uterine lining in that time, leading to particularly heavy period this time. You are not pregnant, so not to worry. Make sure you are getting adequate iron in your diet to have enough for your blood loss and feeding your baby. May need a temporary iron supplement. ...Read more

Emergency c-section... No periods for 5 months (was breastfeeding) then 37 days cycle for the past 6 months ... Am i ovulating ? First pregnancy ivf

Very probably so.: You are probably ovulating but at a less frequent or regular fashion. See your gynecologist for testing and management. An over the counter ovulation predictor test can answer your question but does not explain your oligomenorrhea. Thyroid dysfunction must be ruled out asap! ...Read more
