Not your disc: If the symptoms you describe are on the same side of your face you should see a neurologist. A herniated disc would not be the cause of this. A trigeminal nerve disorder could be the cause. ...Read more

Neurosurgery consult: If you have neurologic symptoms in your arms or hands, such as numbness or weakness, i would consult with a neurosurgeon. Physical therapy can sometimes help, but not so much with symptoms that have been going on so long. ...Read more

The main exception to this, however, is if a person is developing signs of nerve damage. Neck or shoulder: You can get similar symptoms from an impingement on either your neck or shoulder itself. Best thing to do is see a physiatrist and get examined as there are special tests that can be done to determine which it is. If the exam doesn't lead to answers and MRI would be the next step.
