Signs Of Gonorrhea In Throat
I got diagnosed a week ago with gonorrhea and got treated. My fiance is going to get treated. But right now he is having a sore throat is that a sign?
Men and women may exhibit gonococcal infection of the pharynx. Gonococcal pharyngitis is most commonly acquired during orogenital contact, with fellatio predisposing to infection more so than cunnilingus. Pharyngitis is often asymptomatic; however, it may present as exudative pharyngitis with cervical lymphadenopathy.
Throat infections may be more challenging to eradicate. You will need treatmen. ...Read more
If you suspect it: You need a throat culture with "chocolate agar", because one cannot tell clinically if it's gc or any other sore throat cause (virus or bacteria), but you need to know precisely so that the treatment is correct - routine oran ab's may not do the trick. It's embarassaing, but letting it get worse can lead to systemic spread to joints, meninges, so find out. ...Read more
Two bad ideas: Gonorrhea of the throat is very common and a person owes it both to himself/herself and anybody else who's special to be treated at once. A kiss that's more than a peck can transmit the infection, and I suspect that it's often missed by physicians since there's no history of "oral sex". Love's beautiful and all really good lovers are responsible. ...Read more

Does gonorrhea look just like tonsillitis or any other throat sickness? What are the differences between gonorrhea and tonsillitis?
Gonorrhea of the throat often produces a mild sore throat very similar to other minor viral illnesses. The symptoms generally fade over a week.
Strep throat and mono usually cause a very sore throat and change in voice oftentimes with systemic illness (fever, chills, muscle ache, headache, etc.). ...Read more
When I perform oral sex on him my throat hurts pretty bad for the next couple of days, could this be gonorrhea?
What happens if I have gonorrhea of the throat (looks a lot like strep which I tested negative for), how long would that typically last without treatment?
Can you tell me if I have gonorrhea of the throat (looks a lot like strep which I tested negative for), how long would that typically last without treatment?
A long time: It can last for weeks or even months. Especially, it can hang around without symptoms and make other people sick. It sounds like you might do well to go back to your physician and ask for a culture on Thayer-Martin media. ...Read more
My roommate has gonorrhea. Now my throat hurts. Can I get it if he doesn't wash his hands after using the restroom or something similar?
No risk of gonorrhea: Room-mate has hopefully been treated with antibiotics. Also hope that all room-mate's sexual contacts have been alerted & treated. Encourage this, if hasn't been done yet. You will not catch it from toilet seat or door handles. Throat infection only possible if U had oral sex with him. However, room-mate should always wash his hands after restroom use, as should you. ...Read more
I had oral sex for the first time with a very experienced guy and now I have a sore throat could I have gonorrhea?
Probably not: I assume it was fairly recent and gonorrhea would not show up immediately. Most likely you have traumatized your throat. You should be more in control of depth and speed and not let the guy force you or be rough. Gargle with warm salt water and avoid additional trauma and if your throat does not feel better in a few days than see a doctor. Also, you should be tested for stds on a regular basis. ...Read more
I've notice d red bumps on back wall of throat. I've had a sore throat since Friday. Afraid about oral gonorrhea. Red bumps. Could it be?
I tested negative for gonorrhea and I'm having a sore throat every morning and eye pain in both. Is it possible it can be in my throat & eyes?
Gonorrhea can live..: ....anywhere it contacts. If partner is or was positive for infection when you had relations & if exposure to semen was mouth or eye then, it's possible to have been infected in those areas. I'm skeptical with the symptoms you pose & time since exposure should be considered. Still, gonococcal pharyngitis happens. Not hard to verify. More questions? Write me @: www. Healthtap. Awaiting tests, but today I noticed sore throat when I swallow. Performed oral sex on woman 7 days ago and unprotected sex. No other symptoms. If it's oral gonorrhea, does the soreness get worse? What are characteristics of sore throat? Come and go?
Usually no symptoms: Oral gonorrhea almost always (95% of the time) is asymptomatic, with no sore throat at all. On the infrequent occasions it causes symptoms, they would not come and go. Also, cunnilingus -- oral-vaginal contact -- rarely transmits gonorrhea or other STDs. Most likely your symptoms are not from any infection from that exposure. But see a doctor if symptoms continue or you remain concerned. ...Read more
I engaged in both oral and vaginal sex and have a sore throat and yellow tongue. Safe to say no genital symptoms means it's not oral gonorrhea?
I have throat pain of two months on posterior pharyngeal wall. I was taken ceftriaxone sodium 2g injection plus azithromycin 2g. Is it gonorrhea?
Can people have gonorrhea or chlamydia in their throats from oral sex? Is this dangerous if you don't know? If a cut in mouth is it in your blood?
Yes you can: Gonorrhea and chlamydia can cause oropharyngeal or throat infections from "oral sex". Most people with these throat infections tend to have symptoms and experience soreness, painful throats, fevers...and seek treatment and relief; antibiotics can readily prevent the dissemination of the infection to other organs. ...Read more
I was treated for std given rocephin, azithromycin, penicillin. 3 days later I got sore throat lasting 4 days now. Could it be oral gonorrhea?
Not gonorrhea: First, oral gonorrhea usually causes no sore throat or other symptoms; vast majority of cases entirely asymptomatic. Also, it is almost impossible that gonorrhea would fail these antibiotics. Probably you have viral pharyngitis; or (small chance) of yeast infection due to antibiotics. If sore throat severe and/or with ulcers/sores, maybe herpes? Check with doctor if it continues or if severe. ...Read more

I Tested positive for gonorrhea but my husband was negative. I looked in his military records and no signs of him going behind my back. I'm confused?
A few possibilities: The usual explanation in situations like this is that the male has had other partners. He may have been treated and didn't tell you; or his infection cleared up on its own, which can happen over a few weeks. If you were infected from someone else, your husband may just be lucky so far. Test results can be false, but rarely. You both need treatment, regardless of his test result. Good luck! ...Read more
