The : The most common way to "roll" or sprain your ankle is when the ankle (and attached foot) rolls inward toward the other foot. This puts the outside part of the foot on stretch or tension and may injure the outside or lateral ligaments of the ankle. Additionally, on the outside top portion of the leg is a nerve that gives sensation to much of the top of the foot (the superficial peroneal nerve). It's actually just under the skin at this level. Just as the previous responder stated, this nerve was almost assuredly stretched at the time of your injury, causing a traction injury to the nerve. It may take weeks for this to fully recover (or in rare cases, it doesn't recover). Anti inflammatory medications and sometimes other medications more specifically shown to help with nerve related pain may be indicated. If you are not improving, consider seeing a sports medicine physician or an orthopaedic surgeon for further treatment. Good luck! ...Read more

These will usually fade gradually over months or years but sometimes are permanent. Not due to low iron. If you are bruising elsewhere or bleeding easily, platelets and bleeding time should be tested ...Read more

Does it itch when a bruise is healing?

Itching = Healing: When our bodies sustain an injury, the immediate response is inflammation (red, hot, tender swelling). This is the body bringing healing factors to the area and also the veins expand to carry bad stuff away. The nerves in the area respond to this inflammation in varying intensity as things heal from pain to itching and possibly with numbness. This is a normal part of healing. ...Read more
