Sigmoid Colon Spasm
Can diverticula of the sigmoid colon cause pain when menstrual when pooping and can it cause painful spasms in the rectum?
All: The colon on average is about 40cm in length. The sigmoid colon takes up the latter 10cm. Unless there wa a stricture or mass the surgeon or gastroenterologist should have seen the whole sigmoid colon.
Get a colonscopy: Why was the sigmoidscopy reccomneed. Consider a full colonoscopy if you are concerned about colon cancer, such as having rectal bleeding, strong family history of colon cancer, etc. Although you are young for a screening colonscopy if you have any alarm features please do not stop at sigmoidscopy instead get a colonscopy.See 2 more doctor answers
Growth=Polyp=Tumor: A growth in the colon, also called a polyp, is a tumor or growth of abnormal tissue. They can be benign (non-cancerous) or cancer. Benign polyps such as adenomas have potential to turn to cancer if they grow a long time. Other polyps, such as hyperplastic, usually don't turn to cancer. Some polyps may already have cancer in them. Colonoscopy with biopsy is usually needed to make a diagnosis.See 2 more doctor answers
Would riding a bicycle cause my waste to reach the sigmoid colon any quicker than normal everyday activity would? Or would it have the same rate?
Unclear: May indicate inflammatory bowel disease-talk to gastroenterologist.
Your doctor can expl: The doctor who gave you this report must explain it to you, if you ask. It basically means that there is an ulcer in this lesion in your colon, where the cell are very active (proliferating). This may be a benign polyp, yet you need to get it removed as anything which is proliferating can turn into a cancer if you leave it alone inside for too long.
Not likely.: It would not be likely to be able to feel the sigmoid colon, unless it were particularly distended with very hard stool, which would be rather unusual. If you are feeling something in the left lower portion of the abdomen, I would contact your doctor for a physical examination to see what is wrong. Good luck.
Maybe thickened: The wall of the bottom part of your colon might be a little thick but it isn't certain. What that means is there may be evidence of inflamed tissue when the wall of the colon is measured but a normal colon is sometimes the same thickness. Most likely further tests will be needed, such as a colonoscopy. That will be a decision made by you doctor based on the clinical situation.
What would cause the colon to have a grainy texture and nodularity and mucus in the sigmoid colon if biopsies are negative?
Colon biopsy: Biopsy does not show mucus. They did not biopsy what they saw or it was not there when biopsied. Discuss with your GI Dr.
Would riding a bike while standing cause waste to reach my sigmoid colon, even if I went to the loo and pooped out as much as I could beforehand?
No difference: None of these different activities would make a difference since there is only one way for waste to be eliminated...
Ulcerative Colitis: Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease that can have ulceration and decreased vascular patterns in the sigmoid colon. Common symptoms are weight loss, frequent diarrhea (usually bloody) & abdominal pain. Uc occurs when your immune system cannot control the inflammation. See your doctor immediately if you are having these symptoms.See 1 more doctor answer
