Hard to say w/o exam: A stitch will usually go away pretty quickly after stopping exercise. I recommend calling your doctor. Slow down: That sounds like a muscle spasm of your abdominal muscles, which got overworked when you started running. Take it a little slower. When you get the "stitch", slow down or stop walking, take slow deep breaths until it passes. Try stretching your arms overhead and count to 10 to stretch out those muscles. In a wk or so, gradually restart your running program, but go easy and work up slowly. ...Read more

Stitch side: hello~ you are unfit and you should get back out there and start running again but slower and guarding the side and you'll probably find that when you warm up it will go away. The fitter you are the less troubled by stitches you will be. But you must also learn how to pace yourself when exercising. Run within your own comfortable capacity.
