My doc says im aneamic and has prescribed me dexorange syrup it has iron folic acid and vitamin B12 but im afraid will it giv me any side effects?
Anemia treatmemt: Other than possible constipation, caused by iron, the syrup (s) your physician (p) prescribed will give harmless. Ask your p what you folate, (folic acid) iron and B12 values are. If they are normal, you will gain nothing by the s. Anemia can come from blood loss, either by GI or menstrual losses. If you iron (i) level is low, and you eat meat, consider one of those as the cause of your anemia. ...Read more
Is it true that folic acid and green tea supplements help fight cervical dysplasia and HPV? Any side effects?
Adjunct only : The claims about green tea are based on Petri dish work. I think it's rubbish. You will pee out any folic acid beyond that your body needs. HPV is ubiquitous but if you have dysphasia and do not comply with treatment that is essentially 100% effective if done on time, it can cost you your life. Be discerning and good luck. ...Read more

Nope.: All vitamin b complex substances are water-soluble, which means that excess ingested amounts are expelled in the urine, thus avoiding any hypervitaminosis risks. Only the elderly can have subacute spinal degeneration from inadequate vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin) while taking excessive folic acid. ...Read more
Generally NO but...: Folic acid as a water-soluble vitamin has no known toxicity. However, there is evidence that very high doses may interfere with the action of some seizure medicines and thus may provoke seizures in those taking certain anticonvulants. Otherwise there are no known hazards from high Folic Acid intake. See http://ods.Od.Nih.Gov/factsheets/folate. ...Read more
Probably too much: Methotrexate seems to deplete the body of folic acid, and, while controversial, most rheumatologists recommend supplementation. The most common dose is 1 mg per day, but doses range from 5 - 10 mg weekly. 4 mg/day seems higher than usually recommended. There is some concern that too much folic acid might reduce the effectiveness of Methotrexate. Needs review with your doctor. Good wishes! ...Read more

Can i harm my unborn by taking too much folic acid . ? My previous pregnancy was terminated because ntd. So i know I do need a little more folic acid
Take 4-5 mg daily.: There is no such thing a too much Folic Acid - your body does not store the excess folic acid, it is excreted in your urine like all water-soluble vitamins of the b complex. I agree with dr. Livingston's advice for at least 4-5 mg daily of Folic Acid with a prior ontd. Folate prevents autism, preterm birth, miscarriage, fetal cardiac and brain anomalies. ...Read more
I have a Hx of Anencephaly in 2 precious pregnancies... I'm currently pregnant. I'm on high dose folic acid. Can too much folic acid be harmful?
No.: Folic acid is a water-soluble vitamin which is a co-factor necessary for adequate production of energy necessary for all of our cell's energy needs--particularly the rapidly-dividing cells of the embryo and fetus. You could take double-blinded or triple the amount prescribed to you, and most all would be washed out of the body within 24 hours. ...Read more
Too much folic acid during pregnancy ? First baby has low sacral dimple, only affects the vertebrae (not neuro). Taking 4000 mcg this time. Okay?
Can you have too much folic acid? My dr put me on 5mg as I have a high risk pregnancy, but i also take pregnacare that has 400mcg & i eat healthy?Thx
Very safe: Folic acid is very safe with no known toxicity. There is only one reason some authorities advise limiting Folic Acid to 1 mg/day which had nothing to do with Folic Acid being hazardous but due to the fact that high doses can cover up evidence of B12 deficiency. If you are not deficient in B12 then high doses are quite safe- see http://lpi.Oregonstate.Edu/infocenter/vitamins/fa/. ...Read more
Will try 2 conceive in 1 and half mnths after a mc.Taking prenatals since past 5 mnths. Is 800mcg folate, (folic acid)150 mg Ca too less and 4000 IU Vit A too much?
No, it's fine:
There is no danger in taking large amounts of folate (folic acid) & calcium.
It is best to avoid more than 10,000 iu of Vit A in pregnancy. I might limit it to 5000 iu to be safe, but some A is essential. It is safe to take unlimited amounts of beta carotene. See
Conceiving again soon improves odds of success- see

No, however...: I know of no evidence that this dose would be harmful. The recommended intake for women planning/during pregnancy is 600 mcg. Authorities have set an "upper tolerable limit" of 1000 mcg but this isn't because higher levels are proven dangerous but because it could mask B12 deficiency. However, 30% of people have trouble converting Folic Acid to the active form 5-mthf, so taking that form is optimal. ...Read more
