I take 75 Synthroid (thyroxine) after a thyroidectomy. Would an iodine supplement help? How would I know if I were iodine deficient?
Iodine not needed: The primary organ that uses iodine is the thyroid. If your thyroid is removed, then an iodine supplement will not be of use. In addition, there is a lot of iodine in a normal diet. It is very hard to become iodine deficient in all but a handful of remote regions of the world. ...Read more
Could my hypothyroidism be caused by the start and stop of an iodine supplement or be caused by the zyprexa seroque and invega sustenna (paliperidone palmitate) I have been on?
Can taking iodine or DIM supplement cause a missed period? How long after stopping supplement would period resume?
Not due to:
supplements. It is not likely that the supplements caused the missed period. The supplements are also not necessary. Menstrual irregularities are not uncommon and anovulatory cycle is a common cause. If you miss more than two periods it would be time to see your doctor. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time. You may consider implanted contraceptive or an IUD.

I'm taking synthroid (thyroxine) for hypothyroidism and also taking a liquid iodine supplement. Is this ok? What is more effective? Will my thyroid get better?
Get Iodine Level: There are still areas in Brazil with iodine deficiency. If you are iodine deficient and have an enlarging thyroid (goiter) and an underactive thyroid the iodine will likely be helpful and your Synthroid (thyroxine) dose may go down (do not take them at the same time). If you are not iodine deficient depending on the thyroid problem, iodine may actually worsen thyroid function. Get your iodine level checked. ...Read more
What are the side effects of an unruptured brain aneurysm and how can I tell if my CT with iodine scan failed to show any signs of an aneurysm?
A small: Aneurysm generally won't cause any symptoms. A larger aneurysm could cause symptoms based on its location and what structures it is pressing on. Presumably the radiologist would have diagnosed an aneurysm if it was visible on CT, but unless the CT was specifically tailored to look for an aneurysm (CTA), a small aneurysm might not be visible on a routine CT. ...Read more
