Can you get off that filthy drug Lexapro (escitalopram) without weaning off. Doctors should stop prescribing such rubbish. Nothing but side effects?
Typically, yes: While most people are able to stop Lexapro (escitalopram) without any withdrawal symptoms, I am concerned by your reports of side effects to what is typically a very well tolerated medication. I would recommend speaking with your prescribing physician to discuss a strategy to taper your dose and consider alternative treatments, be they pharmacological or otherwise. ...Read more
Tomorrow I'm to stop Cymbalta (duloxetine) and up my Lexapro to 20mg. Will I get the side effects again like when started lex 2wks ago? Dizzy, lightheaded, etc?
Don't expect it to: Having gotten past tem, there's good reason to think you'll be okay. It's not impossible for some to return, but your Dr can slow down the rate of increase if necessary - It will really help if you don't expect them to return since many of these feelings can be generated by our minds alone from the familiar recent experience. This is unnecessary but easy to do. Don't! I hope it goes well. ...Read more
Weird. Also, my typical pre-lexapro weight was about 140. While ielse ever had these side effects?
Dr increased my lexapro from 10 to 20mg, is it possible to experience side effects again until my body adjusts to higher dose?
Yes: Any time the Lexapro is increased your body has to get used to the new dosage again. Biggest side effects from a dose change are stomach upset (nausea, diarrhea typically), dizziness, headaches. It should improve in 3-5 days. If it doesn't, see your doctor because you just may not tolerate that dose. ...Read more

Can occur: It is anecdotal, but I have encountered patients who experience changes in side effects after resuming a previously discontinued medication. This can be due to a number of internal and environmental changes that can occur in the intermediate time. If you find that you are not having the same experience with a med, there are often other options to discuss with your doctor. ...Read more

Is 10mg of Lexapro (escitalopram) the best lowest start dose or is it better to start with 5mg to experience less side effects?
SIDE EFFECTS: You could start with 5 mg but 10 is recommended. Don't look up all the side effects - you most probably won't get the most terrible ones, and the mild ones aren't much. If you do find a new development ask your dr about it. You may have to increase dosage until you feel better. Be a bit more trusting. ...Read more

I was prescribed lexapro (escitalopram) yesterday and the side effects are so awful im afraid to take another one. What's your opinion?
Hold off: Call prescribing doctor and describe your side effects. Ask what to do, eg. Is dose too high, you may be very sensitive to medication in general. You need peace of mind also to continue if med is making you feel awful. Doctor may reassure you. That's what medical supervision is for. Take care. ...Read more
I was on 15mg Lexapro (escitalopram) for G A D. My Dr increased it to 20mg. Could I have side effects until I get used to the increase. Thanks?
On 10mg generic lexapro, (escitalopram) will I get side effects again if I go up to 20mg. Is 10mg just a starting dose mostly and can20mg work better?
Maybe, yes, maybe: While 10 mg is often considered a starting dose, it can be the therapeutic dose for many, yet the dose can still be increased from there. If you had se then I suggest going slowly, first to 15 for a while, seeing what that does for you and how you tolerate it before going to 20. ...Read more

Does the side effects of lexapro (escitalopram) outweigh the benefits, or is it vice versa? If so what are some serious side effects of lexapro (escitalopram)?
Good outweighs: Most people get no side effects from Lexapro (escitalopram). Serious side effects can happen with any medicine, but are very rare with Lexapro (escitalopram) (e.g., bone marrow suppression, anaphylaxis, etc.). Among the commoner side effects are weight gain and suppression of sexual feeling: if you were to get either of these, you should probably switch to another medicine. Unless you found a way to limit them. ...Read more
I've been on 10mg of Lexapro (escitalopram) for 3 days and the side effects are bothering me. Is it ok to reduce it to 5mg for a few days? My Dr. Is unavailable.
Try 5mg AM & 5mg PM: Does your Dr have a backup? That might be worth a try. Otherwise, since you've just started it, early short-lived side effects are common and may disappear on their own. Another reasonably safe way to lessen them may be to take half in the morning and half at night. That's probably less risky than half dose per day. As you know, keep Dr informed ASAP! Best wishes! ...Read more
Took Lexapro (escitalopram) 10mg for two days then dr said to quit cause side effects. Today is 2nd day not taking it I feel lil better. How long til out of system?
Half-life = 24-25hrs: So, after a day off, you'd have 5mg, the 2nd day, you'd have 2.5mg, 3rd, 1.25 and so on - that's very low - so you should be free of the nasty side effects soon. Clearly, you ae sensitive and before you start ANY medications take the time to read up on them and fully discuss them w/ your provider. Some are very hard to stop. Non-pharma psychotherapy might be a choice to consider. Best! ...Read more
