Rx Doxycycline for Sinus Infection. Stopped after Side effects (pulsatile tinnitus). It’s been 3 weeks, pulsatile tinnitus not gone. Permanent?

Probably not doxy: Doxycycline is not a likely cause. More likely a coincidence that it started while taking the drug, especially since it has continued this long. If one of your sinuses is plugged and filled with fluid, that could result in pulsatile tinnitus by increasing transmission of blood flow sound in an artery. Discuss with your doctor, including if other tests are indicated. ...Read more

What are the possible side effects of having a steroid injection to combat a sinus infection?

What are the possible side effects of having a steroid injection to combat a sinus infection?

Steroids and sinus: Sinusitis can be allergic reaction or infection, Allergic sinusitis can become infected. Medications used for allergic rhinitis/sinusitis do include nasal steroids. I prefer nasal/oral antihistamines to decrease the swelling and allergic reaction, though if severe rhinitis I have given steroids both injection and oral. If there are tender sinuses on touch I usually give antibiotics as well. ...Read more

Prescribed amox/clav 875 2 times a day for 10 days. Could only handle the side effects for 7 days. Would that be good enough for sinus infection?

Prescribed amox/clav 875 2 times a day for 10 days. Could only handle the side effects for 7 days. Would that be good enough for sinus infection?

Sinus: By definition you have had an incomplete course of Abx. Best to be rechecked esp. If purulent discharge, Could use oxymetazoline spray every 4 hours for one week to decrease tissue swelling around sinus openings. Also saline nasal irrigations three times a day for one week. This is assuming you do not have chronic rhinosinusitis, polyps, smoker. These conditions will require much more treatment. ...Read more

Increased thirst: Increased thirst is a possible side effect listed with biaxin (clarithromycin). If you have had a mild fever with your infection, that also can trigger a response to drink more as you lose water through perspiration/fever, etc. Best wishes. ...Read more

I have a sinus infection and just started Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) DS yesterday. I've been reading all the negative reviews. Worried about side effects. Is Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) ok?

I have a sinus infection and just started Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) DS yesterday. I've been reading all the negative reviews. Worried about side effects. Is Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) ok?

Usually no problem: It indeed can be alarming to read lists of drug side effects. But for Bactrim, (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) most of them are rare and few are permanent or dangerous. The vast majority of people who take it have no probem at all. And your doctor wouldn't have prescribed it unless she believed it would be more helpful than harmful. But recheck with the doctor if you remain concerned. ...Read more

Can someone tell me how long will it take for pain to subside from sinus infection affection right side of face?

Can someone tell me how long will it take for pain to subside from sinus infection affection right side of face?

Clear the blockage: Pain from a sinus infection occurs due to the pressure build up in one of the sinuses due to blockage of the meatus ("drain" of the sinus.) clearing this blockage can be accomplished through lavage (nedi pot, saline nose spray, etc.), mucolytics (mucinex, plain robitussin), decreasing the viscosity by drinking lots of fluids, and antibiotics to kill bacterial infections that cause swelling. ...Read more

I have had acute sinus infection for 9 days was on levaquin (levofloxacin) 750mg for 10 days. Just finished them but still have facial pain on one side, no congestio?

I have had acute sinus infection for 9 days was on levaquin (levofloxacin) 750mg for 10 days. Just finished them but still have facial pain on one side, no congestio?

Something else: Given that even if Levaquin (levofloxacin) was not the exact abx for the sinusitis it should have provided some relief by now since bacteria tend to stop proliferating temporarily while on an abx (even though it did not kill them). I suspect that your facial pain is likely from something else. Check with your doctor or get a 2nd opinion. ...Read more

I suffer from chronic sinus infection and when I do it seems like I have numbness on the left side of my face and chin area mostly when laying down?
