Side Effects Of Long Term Zoloft Use
How does increased ambient heat affect side effects of long term psychotropic drugs like zoloft (sertraline)?
Doesn't matter: Long term use of medications shouldn't be affected by ambient temperature unless you're referring to its storage in which case usually cool dark cabinet should be fine. Ambient temperature is more a matter of comfort. What's warm for you might be cool for someone else. But temperature shouldn't affect effectiveness nor side effect profile of medications. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Yes, but...: Two common longer term side effects are: 1) sexual [difficulty having an orgasm, reduced sex drive, difficulty having an erection] and 2) weight gain [although weight gain on zoloft (sertraline) is less than another similar antidepressant like paroxetine]. All this being said, there are approaches to minimize side effects that you should speak with your doctor about. Hope this answer helps. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
I'm currently taking 300 mg of Zoloft (sertraline) and my dr. may move up to 400. Are there long term side effects for these doses?
Drug dosing: Zoloft (sertraline) more than 200mg/day is not the usually recommended dose, but individuals vary in their requirements. It is also recommended if you not responding with one medication, instead of keep increasing the dose which may cause more side effects. Changing to different agent or adding another group of medicine might help ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Days to weeks: I generally advise patients if they have side effects to give it a few days up to a week to see if it will subside. Of course this depends on the side effects. The most common with zoloft (sertraline) and meds in it's class is gastrointestinal. So if a person has terrible diarrhea, they may not be able to last more than a day or two before they need to stop the drug. Also, dry mouth tends to stay. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Zoloft (sertraline): Not everyone gets side effects with zoloft (sertraline), (sertraline) even when the dose it raised. You are still well within a normal dose range. How long do the side effects of Zoloft (sertraline) last? How long till the medicine is effective and I start noticing a difference in myself?
Sertraline effects: some Pts notice mild improvement in mood or anxiety within days of starting an SSRI (doses are adjusted daily in hosp). pts will need to be on a therapeutic dose for up to 8 weeks to see full benefits of the med. Pts also differ with respect to SEs. Most Pts have only self limited or rather tolerable SEs (like dry mouth). Rarely, more serious SEs occur. Talk to your doc about your risks/benefits ...Read more
I have been on Zoloft (sertraline) 12.5mg for 3 weeks with the most horrible side effects. I no longer want to take this medicine. How do I get off of it?
Talk w/doctor: First, i suggest talking with your doctor about your decision. The zoloft (sertraline) must have been prescribed because of some symptoms you were having, and these may still need treatment even if zoloft (sertraline) is not the best option for you. You also haven't mentioned what "horrible side effects" you're experiencing -- but i'm sure your doctor would want to know so that something more helpful can be given. ...Read more
On Zoloft (sertraline)?: If you stay on it they probably will continue. Some pts are ableto relieve them by reducing or stopping it for a couple days before having sex which temporarily lowers the blood level but maintains effectiveness--if it is a major problem talk to your doc about trying another drug--viibryd is a new one that isn't supposed to have sexual side effects. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
