Carnitine (Definition)

Carnitine is a quaternary ammonium compound biosynthesized from the Amino Acids lysine and methionine. In living cells, it is required for the transport of fatty acids from the cytosol into the mitochondria during the breakdown of lipids (fats) for the generation of metabolic energy. It is widely available ...Read more

What are the good benefits of l-carnitine redox fat in my body? Is it safe? What is the best time to take? What are the side effects? And bad effects?

What are the good benefits of l-carnitine redox fat in my body? Is it safe? What is the best time to take? What are the side effects? And bad effects?

Not really known: That sounds like an advertised product with claims of helping muscles, athletics, or overall health. One should ask her doctor if the product is a real medication, approved by the fda for treating anything. If the product is not a real medicine that has undergone years of testing and research then one cannot tell for sure if it works or not, and one also cannot know what its side effects might be.

Is it safe to use L-carnitine injection for weight loss? What are the side effects?

Is it safe to use L-carnitine injection for weight loss? What are the side effects?

Not proven: There is no scientific evidence that L-carnitine injections lead to significant or lasting weight loss. Side effects from injections can include infection at the injection site.

What is the difference between acetyl L-carnitine vs L-carnitine l tartrate? Is one preferable over the other for CHF?

No: L-carnitine is an amino acid and your body can make it from sources in your foods. Neither form has been shown in reliable studies to be beneficial in congestive heart failure.

I take 1200mg l-carnitine 30mins before workout with 1.5 liter water, does it have bad side effect for me?

I take 1200mg l-carnitine 30mins before workout with 1.5 liter water, does it have bad side effect for me?

Many concerns here..: With your supplement particular, there's actual very little scientific evidence it provides a benefit. Recent studies actually show that carnitine gets metabolized in the gut to compounds that can cause heart damage. I'm also concerned about your stretch marks and liver issues & possible steroids. Bodybuilders get stretch marks when muscle grows faster than the skin around it. Doesn't happen norma.

What are the effects of taking l-carnitine with co-enzyme q-10?

Energy: They both paly a role in turning nutrients into energy at the cellular level. They both have beneficial effects on the cardiovascular system. There is no problem with taking them together.

What age can you start taking l-carnitine?

Teenager: Should be no problem with anyone over age 12, but would not suggest this supplement for children, should just stick with a good multivitamin.

Are creatine and l-carnitine worth the cost?

Are creatine and l-carnitine worth the cost?

Food is better: Simply put no. It is generally more advantageous to get your nutrients from food rather than an isolated supplement.

Which is better? L-carnitine or acetyl-l-carnitine?

Synonyms: Acetyl-l-carnitine and l-carnitine are synonyms for the same substance, but you want to make sure to have the "l" form and not the "d". Make sure the producer specifies this, as well as any % content of "d" impurities. In humans it's synthesized in liver, kidney, and brain from lysine and methionine and actively transported to other areas of the body -- 98% in skeletal and heart muscle.

Could l-carnitine increase height growth?

Could l-carnitine increase height growth?

Probably not: It is a growth factor for mealworms, but probably not going to impact human height.

Should a 15 year old take acetyl-l-carnitine?

Deficiency?: I normally only start patients on carnitine if they have a deficiency noted by lab test.

Is it possible to have used l-carnitine for running?

You should know: Better than I do whether you used it or not. In any event, it won't help you and is just a waste of $$$.

Can I take l-carnitine when im trying to get pregnant?

Yes ; after.: L-carnitine tartrate (carnipure) shuttles free fatty acids (ffa) to the mitochondria for energy production. It can be taken before and is indicated during gestation, as it reduces the increased level of plasma ffas, main cause of Insulin resistance during pregnancy, which can lead to gestational diabetes in 5-10% of pregnancies. Only 2 g l-carnipure tartrate have an impact on fatty acid enzymes.
