Side Effects Of Avodart In Men
Are there any other options then avodart hate the side effects had every bad symptom from inability maintain an erection, decrease in sex drive, problem ejaculating. Was taking for slow urine flow rate. I stopped taking is there any over-the-counter
Finasteride is an alternative to avodart (dutasteride). Unfortunately, it has a very similar side effect protocol to Avodart (dutasteride) as it has the same mechanism of action.
Alpha blockers like tamsulosin, sildosin or alfuzosin are very good at improving a patient's force of stream. However, they too can cause a decrease in your ejaculate. They should not however interfere with your sex drive. They would really provide your best chance for symptomatic relief.
I would also speak to your urologist about the possiblity of surgical intervention. However this too will likely wipe out your ejaculate.
As for alternative products, there have been two randomized control trials looking at saw palmetto published in the nejm that have shown that it does not work. As for other products, I do not know of any hard data showing that they work. ...Read more
On avodart (dutasteride) for 5+ years to treat bph. Decrease in penile length observed. Connection? If so, will stopping meds reverse this unfortunate side-effect?
No it is not related: Avodart (dutasteride) is a 5 Alpha reductase inhibitor that will reduce the size of the prostate and lower the psa level by 50%. It may lower the volume of the ejaculate and caouse ed in some men but shold not change the length of the penis. ...Read more

Avodart (dutasteride): While erectile dysfunction is listed as a common side effect of Avodart, (dutasteride) in my experience it is more likely that the medication is exacerbating another cause of erectile dysfunction rather than being the sole cause. The drug has a very long half-life and may stay in your system for many weeks after stopping it. I would recommend an evaluation for ED by a urologist. ...Read more
I have trouble getting an erection because of Avodart (dutasteride) which I have taken for over four years. How long must I stop it before my erection returns?
Check w/ your doctor: You can also check with your pharmacist. Be sure to ask about alternative medication that may not cause erectile dysfunction to avoid problems from BPH from returning once off the meds. The length of time is probably different for different people however. Hope this helps! ...Read more
What med besides avodart (dutasteride) shrinks the prostate without producing erectile disfunction?
Will Avodart (dutasteride) as a brand named prescription have its patent extended as a brand name beyond that of the expected November 2015 date?
If physician agrees: Stopping Avodart (dutasteride) will not lead to any serious problems although the therapeutic benefit on your prostate will be lost. The trial off the medicine to see if it helps with sexual dysfunction is not unreasonable. I suspect, however, that you need to have a testosterone level checked before assuming Avodart (dutasteride) is the sole cause of your problem ...Read more
If avodart & flomax are cy3a4 substrates & sprycel (dasatinib) is an inhibitor, why do interaction checkers show a prob. With sprycel (dasatinib) & avodart but not w/flomax?
Avodart (dutasteride) is extensively metabolized in humans by the cyp3a4 and cyp3a5
isoenzymes. Flomax (tamsulosin) is extensively metabolized, mainly by cyp3a4 and cyp2d6 isoenzymes. Sprycel (dasatinib) is also extensively metabolized by the cyp3a4 isoenzyme but is also a weak time-dependent inhibitor of cyp3a4 and may therefore potentially increase the concentrations of Avodart and flomax. ...Read more
Been on Avodart for years/stopped last month for libido improvement. How long before prostate starts growing again and PSA rises?
Uncertain, but...: Known to us, no drug is free of potential adverse effects for some. If in doubt, stop its use, wait, & see with uncertain pace of recovery, which could be 3-6 months or longer or never since irreversible physical changes may occur over years in attesting life is a one-way street of accumulation, modification, & continuation. Can I safely lower the dose of avodart (dutasteride) to once a week from once a day to see if my erection returns. Have been on daily dose for BPH for 5 years.
Taking avodart (dutasteride) and flomax for three years for bph. Some of the symptoms have returned. Do these pills lose their efficacy after a while?
If flomax & avodart (dutasteride) are both cy3a4 substrates & gleevec is an inhibitor why do interaction checkers show a prob. Of gleevec w/flomax but not avodart (dutasteride)?
Different drugs with different levels of cytochrome interference.

Avodart keeps PSA low. So how would the PSA test help somebody diagnose prostate cancer if the med keeps the number low?
No affect survival:
Scroll down to medications part. Have to adjust PSA concentration 'manually' depending on how long you've been on 5a-reductatse inhibitor.

Is it true that proscar and avodart (dutasteride) may prevent some prostate cancers but can actually cause aggressive prostate cancers?
Uncertain: There is some data suggesting that the cancers in patients on these drugs were higher grade. However, since the rates of adverse outcomes were not significantly higher in those patients, it raises the possibility that these results might be skewed. One possibility is that reduction in the size of the prostate makes it easier to find these cancers even though they may not be caused by the treatment. ...Read more
On Avodart for 7 years and lost erection and penis ejaculation. If I stop it for 6 months to see if both return, will it harm the prostate in any way?
No harm in trying: Yes you can stop Avodart safely. It works minimally and takes time, so a 6 month gap to regain your sexual function is well worth the effort. Good luck. ...Read more
Tamsulosin makes me urinate more often than usual. Why would I use it with Avodart, (dutasteride) when I have no problem urinating?
Here are some. ..: For a 82-y-o man, most likely, you got significant lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) due to aging + prostate enlargement, for which the use of both is the optimal Rx that modern medicine can provide; so don't stop & should be closely monitored for possible inch-up residual urine, which could be an indicator for intervention. Nowadays, prostate laser procedure (PVP) has been superb in effect... ...Read more
Hello I d be grateful if you could tell me what the recommended dosage of avodart 0 5 mg dutasteride is for long term use against male pattern baldness I ve been told contradictory things and read different amounts online and is it ok to switch from dutas
Not approved for it: Avodart (dutasteride) is only indicated/approved for treatment of prostatic enlargement (bph) and nothing else, yet. It is in the same class as Finasteride (propecia) which is indicated for male pattern baldness treatment. It works for some and not others. It may decrease libido and causes other side effcts. If u r using avodart, (dutasteride) consider Propecia as it is approved for both. Consult doc. Good luck. ...Read more

Recent onset of bph. Pcp suggested flomax. A year ago DHT measured 175 ng/dl. Would avodart (dutasteride) be better?
Symptoms dictate: Flomax starts relieving symptoms within a few hours by relaxing the muscle tissue in the prostate. Avodart (dutasteride) works on the glandular portion and may take 3 to 6 months to give a difference in symptoms. You decide. Good luck. ...Read more
I head that flomax and avodart taken together increase the risk of heart failure. I am on both for 5 years because of BPH. Should I be worried?
Steroids will speed up hair loss, but will avodart (dutasteride) or proscar really work to prevent this when on cycle?
Do you need it?: Since no known study has been done to specifically address the issues in this Q at least in my 46 yrs in training/practice in urology, I would hesitate to offer any related opinions. However, it is still logical to know what is your specific concern/goal of considering the use of a-alpha reductase inhibitors before embarking such application. More? To http://www. Formefirst. Can avodart (dutasteride) stop hairloss? It reduces DHT level but it also increases testosterone. Which one is worst for the hair? Is it dangerous for the brain?
Like finasteride: Avodart (dutasteride) is similar/in the same class of meds as Proscar (finasteride) which is the same medication as rogaine, (minoxidil) but at four times the dose. Avodart is relatively more potent, and so you can't consider adjusting the dose similarly. Avodart is not indicated for reversing hair loss, and because of its indications for the prostate, should not be taken by a 27 yo male. ...Read more

What are the mental side effects of extremely high estrogen in men? Can this cause gender issues?

Also it can cause gynecomastia, erectile dysfunction, and infertility. Gender identity does not rely on hormone levels alone. ...Read more
It's safe & healthy: Claims about it "lowering sperm count" reflect less resorption of fluid if you ejaculate often.
