Atenolol: Tenormin (atenolol)has been used for many years now. The only long term effect which has arisen is a possibility that beta blockers, it's drug family, may decrease tolerance to glucose. They are at least: Bioequivalent, as atenolol is the generic form of Tenormin. They do contain different binders, which people can react to differently, so not everyone responds exactly the same. Realize that the side effects you report are commonly reported across all beta-blockers (the class of medications of atenolol/Tenormin). Review this with your doctor, as you may be better served with another class of med. ...Read more

I was on Atenolol 50mg daily. Doctor switching me to Toprol (metoprolol) XL 25mg. Bad side effects with atenolol. Is this equivalent? What should I expect?
Resolution of sympto: STOP 2ND GUESSING EVERYTHING THAT UR DOCTOR DOES! I assume u explained what "bad side effect" atenolol was causing to ur doctor (there's no description here). I also assume the side effect was from low BP. Toprol (metoprolol) XL is a longer-acting pill (that's y "XL"). It's also @a lower equivalent dose. So it shdn't drop the BP as much, & lasts longer (wears off slower) so u shd be covered for the entire day. ...Read more

A yeast infection is: Commonly in women and refers to a yeast overgrowth in the vagina. If you are referring to a fungal infection in the groin, you would treat that with a topical agent like Lotrimen which would have no bearing on QT issues.
