Get examined!: At age 55 your most common cause for this pain would still be 'impingement' ( or bursitis). Labral tears causing this pain are less likely unless associated with the biceps 'anchor'( SLAP) lesions -- but less likely in isolation in your age group.Osteoarthritis can cause pain in this distribution . Probably: It appears likely that there has been some nerve injury in view of your symptoms. As inflammation and swelling subside the nerve symptoms should improve. Many possibilities: Pain from the shoulder down the arm my be caused by a variety of things. Starting at the neck, there may be a pinched nerve, or the joints in the neck may be irritated. The muscles around the neck and shoulder may develop trigger points or tendonopathy which cause radiating pain. The shoulder itself may develop impingement.
