I have painful shoulder crunching and have begun to experience limited mobility accompanied by pain when I twist my back?

Yes: It is better to be to tight than too loose and need surgery to stabilize. Unless you have severely restricted motion, then you have developed a frozen shoulder and need to be evaluated before you start pt.
