Hard to diagnose : Without more history and physical exam, but would recommend you see your physician, have a thorough history and physical and discuss possibility of rheumatoid arthritis. Not true: First of all, Methotrexate is really an initial treatment for RA and about 30% of patient will not respond adequately to Methotrexate alone. If your inflammation is uncontrolled your doctor needs to add a tnf agent to the methotrexate. ...Read more

But if pain die to infection , antibiotics will be needed along with orthopaedic review. If it is injury- pain relief+ rule out fracture. If arthritis- pain relief + bloods + rheumatologist review.
