I injured my shoulder while bench pressing? Should I just lift fewer pounds?

Change routine: You probably have torn or injured your shoulder rotator cuff, which can be a persistent "plague" on your exercise routine. Do not do the same thing that caused it for a while and in any event exercise through stiffness but not through pain. I think I injured my shoulder while bench pressing. How do I check where my injured muscle/area is?

Hard to say: If you have pain, there's a good chance the injury is where it hurts. You need to say what makes you feel you have an injury. Some are easily diagnosed on the surface by looking, palpating and moving the shoulder. Others require imaging such as x-ray or MRI to visualize the precise nature of the injury. Hard non-moveable bump on spine b/t shoulder blades. More painful as day goes on- pressing in nerve? Vertebrae is sticking out? Dr can't see for weeks

Need a bit more info: Lump on the spinous process would not involve nerve. Injury could cause a crushed vertebra and a "hump".TB is rare in the US but that could be a problem, Bone tumors are rare there. A sweat gland (seborrheic) cyst is more common and can be fairly fixed. In any case, a few days-even a week or two-delay should not change your prognosis. No doc for weeks sounds like poor care. See a nurse. ...Read more

You should seek a thorough orthopaedic surgeon evaluation if the pain persists past a week. ...Read more

Doubt cancer but...: If you have a new mass on the spine then you would need an MRI because it's likely something that could be cancer. However, cancers don't commonly arise there and nor are they painful so I would say it's less likely that and more likely some sort of spasm. ...Read more
