Doctor insights on:
Should You Take Zyrtec In The Morning Or At Night
Not the Standard:
Not really Zyrtec tablets and Claritin are usually once a day meds. They are 2 different antihistamines. Claritin does come in a 12 hour form. So you would take one in the am and one in the pm.
Certainly you could use both antihistamines but it is not usually the standard of care.
Thanks for your question

Is it possible to take zyrtec in the morning and Benadryl (diphenhydramine) at night for my allergies?
I take Zyrtec in the morning and Claritin (loratadine) at night and that usually helps but my allergies are so much worse after moving to Kentucky from New York.
Can I take Zyrtec in the morning and Benadryl (diphenhydramine) at night for postnasal drip? Need relief in the morning. Going to ENT in December.
Every day, glands in the linings of your nose make about a quart of mucus each day.
The excess can come out of the nostrils -- that’s a runny nose. When the mucus runs down the back of your nose to your throat, it's called postnasal drip.

Can I give my 2 year old children's Benadryl (diphenhydramine) at night.... and how much.....she takes zyrtec in the morning?
Zyrtec (cetirizine) + Benedryl: The occassional use of Benedryl for breakthrough allergy symptoms in addition to regular use of Zyrtec (cetirizine) should generally not cause any problems. Dosing of Benedryl is based on your child's current weight. A simple phone call to your pediatrician should be all that is needed to confirm that the appropriate doses of Zyrtec (cetirizine) and Benedryl are being given. ...Read more
I take montelukast & zyrtec in the morning & 2 180mg allegra (fexofenadine) at night for chronic urticara, can I take dramamine also for motion sickness while flying?
If I take 5mg of Zyrtec (cetirizine) at night, is it still working come morning and afternoon, or should I take the full 10mg?
Most pollen from: Trees are released at night between 3 AM to 6 AM. So your Zyrtec (cetirizine) should work fine for the time when you need it the most! However if you're in a hyper allergenic environment, you may need the full dose. So if you feel that all you need is the evening and early morning doses the 5 mg may be enough. Let your body be your barometer! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
See your doctor: This is a high dose of antihistamines and should be best directed by an allergist. Sometimes the high doses are mandated to treat certain conditions, but not seasonal allergies. You should consult an allergist about your symptoms for the best way to treat them. ...Read more
No additional benef: Since both of these meds work in very similar ways, there is likely to be very little additional benefit from using both, and much more likely to have side effects from the meds. If one alone is not working, talk to doc about what combination therapy may be more useful, including use of prescription med like Singulair (montelukast). Also need to delve into allergen prevention so you won't need as much meds. ...Read more
Sedation: That dose of zyrtec is going to be very sedating. This defeats the purpose of taking zyrtec instead of benadryl (diphenhydramine). That level of sedation will make you a drowsy --> dangerous driver. Have you tried Loratadine or allegra? Do you use Flonase or something like it? Do you regularly flush your nose with a saline/ baking soda solution? ...Read more

Zyrtec (cetirizine) is only effective for 10 hours for me. Is there any other medication I can take at night to help my allrrgies along with zyrtec (cetirizine) in the morning?
More zyrtec (cetirizine) for nose: zyrtec (cetirizine) can be taken safely more than the package states. It can cause some drowsiness in about 13% of people; that's why the low dose of ten mg is recommended. The simplest answer to your problem is to simply take another zyrtec (cetirizine) at night, if your morning dose doesn't last all day. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Is it safe to mix hydroxyzine and valium? E.g. 5mg valium in the morning, then hydroxyzine at night? If on it do you still need to take zyrtec 4allerg
Ok: Since you are taking hydroxyzine at night, it is fine as long as you are not working a nightshift since this may make you drowsy. Zyrtec is simply a more pure form of hydroxyzine with less drowsiness effect and thus you may not need to take a Zyrtec for allergy. However it can be added if necessary. ...Read more
Can I take Claritin (loratadine) in the morning and zyrtec at night. Allergies are just that bad..
I take a generic version of zyrtec (cetirizine) in the morning can I take alka seltzer cold and cough at night?
Yes: And if you can quit smoking, you'd get sick much less! Don't forget that in the winter, our noses need moisture--even when we think they are stuffy. Many times they are asking for moisture. I like ayr saline gel spray as it sticks and doesn't run down the back of your throat. Steroid nasal sprays are helpful too! ...Read more
Under an allergist supervision I take two zyrtecs (cetirizine) in the morning with a ranitadine. At nite I take singular and ranitadine and cyproheptadine. Can I take two zyrtecs (cetirizine) at night instead of the ranitadine and cyproheptadine?
Zyrtec (cetirizine) dose: Yes, you can take more zyrtec (cetirizine) total per day if you tolerate it well. When patients have severe urticaria, we often have them take even more than 4 zyrtec (cetirizine) tablets daily. The initial studies with zyrtec (cetirizine) used doses of 10-40 mg, or up to 4 tablets at a time. You can still take the ranitidine and montelukast at night also, if they help you. They do not affect the dose of antihistamine. ...Read more
