Can NyQuil/DayQuil be taken if you take Losartan 100mg? If not what recommendations for cold/flu day and night medicines do you have? Thank you!

Can NyQuil/DayQuil be taken if you take Losartan 100mg? If not what recommendations for cold/flu day and night medicines do you have?

Thank you!

Mixing medications: Either of them should be fine. The dayquil contains a mild decongestant - phenylephrine which could potentially raise your blood pressure. One version of the nyquil contains pseudoephedrine which should be avoided in people with high blood pressure but in the US that would be behind the counter. I would say take whatever to help your symptoms and only for as long as you have symptoms. ...Read more

Timing matters not: Aripiprazole can be taken at anytime of the day, but take it as your healthcare provider's instructed if she or he wants you to take it at a specific time (s/he knows more about your health history and other medications you’re taking). Some practitioners prefer nighttime only because aripiprazole is known to cause drowsiness. ...Read more

Hypothyroidism: Excellent question! there are several recent studies suggesting better results if you take levothyroxine at night, presumably on an empty stomach. Check out http://www.Drugs.Com/levothyroxine.Html which recommends taking on empty stomach (although states ok 30min before breakfast). Always ask your doc & tell him/her what you want to do. Then check TSH 6wks after change. Repeat TSH in another 6wks. ...Read more

Why do statins need to be taken at bedtime?

Increased efficacy: The thought is that cholesterol formation in the liver is highest when sleeping, so a shorter acting statin would have the highest blood levels in the blood if taken at bedtime. Some statins that have a longer time in the blood, so less of an issue. According to their fda package inserts: pravachol, crestor, and Lipitor (atorvastatin) can be taken at any time. Is it ok/normal to talk/ask your DR to up your dosage of a med you're taking if it's not helping at the current dose? Xanax (alprazolam) .5

Is it ok/normal to talk/ask your DR to up your dosage of a med you're taking if it's not helping at the current dose? Xanax (alprazolam) .5

Small modification: I'll suggest that you not ask for the specific action but rather that you describe the situation in detail. Then let the 'expert' decide the course of action. It might be a switch to another drug or treatment approach. More is not always better - it's not simple arithmetic. Adding CBT therapy optimizes medication efx in all research. That's a healthier choice than more dosage. Talk to your Dr. ...Read more
