Hernia Surgery (Definition)

There are a variety or several types of hernias, and many are repaired differently. A hernia is a weakness in the abdominal wall (such as inguinal, umbilical, incisional) or diaphragm (hiatal hernia). Surgery to repair the hernia can involve use of sutures, and possible use of mesh. Open or laparoscopic surgery can be a means to repair hernias, with laparoscopic ...Read more

Just had hernia surgery - 6 weeks ago. But lately, I've been feeling a little soreness in my right testicle.

If your surgeon manipulated the cord and placed mesh some discomfort may be ok at 6 weeks. However if you have significant swelling, worsening pain or persistent bruising you should go to surgeon to be examined. ...Read more

What to do with 840 mililiters blood in abdomen after hernia surgery had hernia repair surgery on testicle was in bad pain 2 weeks later dr said blood floating around in abdomen

Many: Many times the blood you are talking about is bodily fluids tinged with blood. Sometimes you don't even have to drain that fluid. I'm assuming they did because you have an exact measure of 840 milliliters... What if one testicle now hangs lower after inguinal hernia surgery? Is this normal?

Sounds normal: One testicle almost always hangs lower than the other; this is normal in all men. (Most commonly the left is lower, but it can go either way.) I'm guessing it's always been that way for you and you're now just looking more closely. Hernia surgery is not likely to make much difference -- but even if it does, it's not a health concern. ...Read more

Open inguinal hernia surgery 7 days ago. Heard a pop in night. Right testicle swelled up a lot. Did I tear it?

Here are some...: It is unlikely to tear the repair within 7 days because postoperative pain would naturally self restrict possible undue strenuous physical activity. To figure out what might happen, one needs more info on the specifics, relevance, & sequence of events of all symptoms + physical exam + imaging test (though rarely needed). How? After open inguinal hernia surgery 3 weeks ago on the left side, my left testicle doesn't raise up anymore. It was normal before, worried.

Cremaster Muscle: The vas and blood vessels to the testicle are covered by a muscle layer that has to be divided when performing an open inguinal hernia repair, called the cremaster muscle. Depending how extensive the dissection, your testicle may not raise up any more. While I can understand your concern, this should have no major effect on your testicle function. Please discuss with your surgeon. ...Read more

I did Inguinal hernia surgery 2 days ago and my right testicle pains me and is a bit larger than the left. Also my hernia was also on the right side;?

Probably normal: Swelling in the groin, the testicle, and scrotum after inguinal hernia repair is very common and should get better day by day. Try elevation and ice/heat. If the pain is persistent and/or severe or if the swelling doesn't get better there is a small chance of damage to the spermatic cord. You should see your surgeon and monitor closely. ...Read more

70 days after inguinal hernia surgery I still feel mild pain above my testicle as if someone is squeezing it. Is this normal?

Not Uncommon: Two months after hernia repair your body is still healing--the pain you are describing is understandable. 70 days after inguinal hernia surgery I still feel mild pain above my testicle as if someone is squeezing it. Is this normal?

Could be, but...: Some lingering ache/pain as described is at times expected in few, and usually nothing needs to be done but just watch and see as long as slowly but surely getting better week by week. Very occasionally, the post-herniorrhapy may be unbearable and requires nerve block with or without neurectomy, that is, severing off a selected nerve fiber. More? Go to http://sick-ask. 1 year after hernia surgery I have pain in my veins of testicles and since 1 month when I breath pain radiates though chest also.?

Unsure: In regards to the testicular pain you can have this after a hernia repair because the blood flow to the testicle can be compromised. You can check this with a scrotal ultrasound. I just had hiatal hernia surgery 4 days and my penis and testicles are swollen and purplish is this normal after surgery?

Not likely: Just to clarify, did you have a hiatal hernia or inguinal hernia repair. Inguinal hernias are in the groin and their repair laparoscopically can definitely result in bruising and swelling of the penis and scrotum. During hiatal hernia repair, no good reason for your symptoms. If you had a catheter in your bladder during surgery then this could possibly cause the swelling and bruising. ...Read more

If the pain is getting worse or not getting better at this point you should be seen by your surgeon for follow-up evaluation. If there is no redness or drainage and the pain is getting better over time it may be safe to watch. ...Read more

Suffer retractile testicles after inguinal hernia surgery. Will this go away or stay like this forever? It's been 2.5 months. Any tips to make it go?

Should stop: I admit I don't have any research to quote you, but in my experience this somewhat atypical problem should be self limited. You could try applying warm heat to the scrotum, in the privacy of your own home, of course. This would cause the cremasteric muscles to relax to drop the testicles away from the groin. It's worth a shot. Good luck. ...Read more

Hernia Repair (Definition)
