Is it good for your poop to sink or float?

In between: Your stools should neither sink nor float. Floating stools can indicate that there is fat that is not absorbed by the body, or that there is excess gas produced by bacteria in the gut. Stools that sink rapidly can indicate that there are minerals that are not absorbed, or that the stool has been in the body for a long time and has no moisture. ...Read more

What does it mean when some pieces of stool float and don't sink quickly?

What does it mean when some pieces of stool float and don't sink quickly?

Usually nothing: You'd get the idea from reading that floating stools mean malabsorption. If you actually have that, you'd know you're sick. Usually they float because of air bubbles -- and this just happens, or is from gum chewing or talking a lot or your particular mix of diet and bacteria or whatever. ...Read more

Is it a "good" thing if my feces sink in the toilet all the time? I used to think floating = well hydrated; just want to make sure I understand fully.

If my feces used to float, but now tend to sink in the toilet, what does that mean?

Your diet: It all depends on what you are eating. If you are eating foods with lots of fiber (which is a good thing!), you feces will be more dense & sink. Floating stools can be caused by dietary fat or by an increase in gas from the normal bacteria that are in your gut. If you are not absorbing your food properly, the bacteria try to digest it & produce gas. See doc if not better for evaluation. ...Read more

Floater or Sinker: The sinkability of stool depends on the amount of air/gas, not the amount of fat, although vary fatty stools will tend to float. Are you having any symptoms? What was the reason you had test to begin with? Of course, celiac disease needs to be ruled out, but dietary changes which affect the population of gas forming bacteria in the gut can also be in play. Your md will sort it out. ...Read more

Does floating poop indicate a healthier diet ? Thanks

Does floating poop indicate a healthier diet ? Thanks

Mis-informed: "floating poop" is an exception, not the norm. Stool floats in part when it contains a lot of air or gas. You are correct in that diet plays a considerable role in stool composition, but additional roles here are played by your bacterial flora, the effectiveness of food digestion and absorption, GI transit time, more. ...Read more

Is it a sign of good/better health when poop floats or is poop supposed to sink daily?

Not helpful: This is one more "pop" myth. Life and health-maintenance are difficult enough without superstitions. Floating stools are very rarely due to steatorrhea and if they are, you'll know something's bad-wrong already. Otherwise, it's a function of how many gas bubbles made it through to the end. It's of no real significance. ...Read more

This may sound graphic but i ate blueberries and 4 hours later pooped loose dark poop, i also seen blueberry skin floating on top? Is this normal?
