Should My Baby Soil Diaper After Every Feeding
Meticulous hygiene.: Most baby diaper rashes are either irritative or infectious in nature. Urine & feces commonly irritate baby's skin triggering a diaper rash. Otc diaper creams are geared to seal the skin from these caustic exposures. Yeast & bacterial infections can produce diaper rashes as well. These are more complicated to diagnose & treat--requiring your doctor's help. Baby wipes can produce rashes as well. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
See pediatrician: For diaper rash keep baby's skin clean & dry. Change diaper as soon as it's soiled or wet. For healing allow baby to go without diaper for periods of time so affected area can air out. Avoid tight diapers or airtight covers over diaper. Meds your Dr. might recommend include antifungal cream (for fungus), a steroid cream (for significant inflammation) or an antibiotic (for bacterial infection.) ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Is it blood?: First, is it blood? Newborns especially can pass dark urine that when dried in a diaper can look like blood. Sometimes genuine blood can come from bloody vaginal discharge (normal in a newborn), or from a crack or fissure near the anus. Not sure what's going on? Go see the pediatrician for an exam. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Will rubbing a pee-soaked diaper on an infant's face and/or tongue cure him of thrush and baby acne?
Not advisable: There is much folklore surrounding the use of urine as a cure-all, but little evidence of any benefit. Urine should be sterile and not cause disease, but there are much better treatments for both oral thrush and acne. Baby acne does not need treatment and will go away on its own. Benzoyl peroxide is far more effective for treatment of adult acne. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

My infant is showing signs of dehydration. When do I call the doctor? My baby has been ill and is having fewer wet diapers than normal. I’ve tried to give her pedialyte, but she isn’t taking much of it. At what point do I need to call her pediatrician?
Call Dr. now: Signs of dehydration include fewer wet diapers, tears and saliva that is thicker than usual. Infants may become dehydrated in just a few hours. It sounds like you've done the basics-it's time to discuss the details with your doctor. It will be much easier to treat the problem early. Good luck. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

My baby is feeding and soiling her diapers as expected, however, she is sleeping a lot. She will be 7w. Is this a sign of growth spurt?
I assume: you mean by "dirty diaper" diapers containing stool. 7 or 8 stools per day may not be unusual, but if it is a big change from previously, you should take your baby to her pediatrician. If she is making fewer urine soaked diapers, it could mean she's dehydrated and needs prompt evaluation. ...Read more

Hard to say: Unless you use cloth, it is hard to say if they wet or not unless you weigh the diaper. Most available disposables are designed with material woven into the fabric that pulls away moisture. If concerned, a square of toilet tissue placed over the genitals will show evidence of a wet when checked. If the kid is otherwise thriving, this is probably ok. ...Read more
