Should I wear shoes with a broken little toe?

Should I wear shoes with a broken little toe?

Yes: As long as the shoe is not narrow, it should be okay to wear shoes. The stiffer the shoe the better to reduce movement of the 5th digit.

Every time I wear closed shoes, my little toe hurts me. What are the possible reasons ans solutions?

Hammer toe corn: Several causes: hammertoe deformity, curly varus hammertoe. Localized bursitis of the toe. Shoe toe box to narrow. Use lambs wool or foam or silicone shield. If you have had skin on toe see podiatrist for evaluation and treatment.

Little toe - pain anytime I wear shoes (sneakers, etc.) hard skin (corn) but pain all the time unless I am not wearing shoes. What can be done?

Avoid pressure to it: This is very common. The little toe is rubbing the side/end of the shoe and becomes sore. There can be a callous or corn and sometimes a pad will help. Sometimes there is a underlying bone spur to the area and surgery can remove it. Sometimes just changing the shoe choice will resolve the problem. If the pad and shoe choice do not help see a podiatrist.

Probably broken toe: You can bring your shoe to an old-fashioned shoe repair shop where they have "lasts" that they can fit into your shoes and stretch the leather. Those stores are getting hard to find because people are buying more sneakers and fewer good leather shoes. If your fifth toe is really angulated a lot, go to either to a podiatrist or a foot orthopedist.

The outside of my right foot - just below my little toe - is in major pain on a daily basis. I wear good shoes with Dr. Scholls inserts. Advice?

The outside of my right foot - just below my little toe - is in major pain on a daily basis. I wear good shoes with Dr. Scholls inserts. Advice?

Weight shift.: Try taking the Dr. Scholls inserts out of your shoes for a few days. See if, by removing the inserts, the weight on the lateral side of the foot is off loaded, thereby reducing the pain.

Woke with severe pain left little toe joint. No injury remembered but has been hurting a little for weeks. I don't wear tight shoes or heels.

Get it checked: Trauma and shoe irritation would be the most likely reasons. Check between the toes for signs of irritation or a soft corn. If nothing unusual is noted, have a podiatrist evaluate it. You may need x-rays to check for occult fracture or arthritis.

My little toe is curling inward. It rubs against the adjacent toe. My shoes are roomy. Do any over-the-counter toe straighteners work?

My little toe is curling inward. It rubs against the adjacent toe. My shoes are roomy. Do any over-the-counter toe straighteners work?

No: Otc toe straighteners do not straighten toes. They can cushion the area but that's all. The cause is complicated but the easiest answer is the tendons aren't pulling properly. Surgery is the only way to straighten the toe v.

Hard skin on little toe, hurts, shoe hurts too?

Hard skin on little toe, hurts, shoe hurts too?

Corn: It seems that at minimal you have a corn. You need to wear shoes that don't rub on the toe and need to see a podiatrist to treat the underlying problem.

Wore shoes tight on little toe for 4 wks. 3mths of toe and outside edge painful, hypersensitive. Can't tolerate touch. Neuroma? Stress f? Injection?

Wore shoes tight on little toe for 4 wks. 3mths of toe and outside edge painful, hypersensitive. Can't tolerate touch. Neuroma? Stress f? Injection?

Evaluate & Treat.: It sounds like the nerve has been traumatized by the excessive pressure. I don't think that it is as bad as a neuroma, but a severe neuritis is entirely possible. There could be an issue with the bone, so an x-ray would be warranted. I would think that three months should have allowed the condition to at least partially resolve. Next would be to try NSAIDS, PT followed by a steroid injection.

Perhaps it is: Or it's broken. A foot xray would tell. Ice it until you can get one. Twenty minutes on with ice and twenty minutes off, repeat often. Don't freeze your skin with the ice.

What is the best way to treat hammer toe (little toe)? I am using a silicone gel tube & wider shoes but still have pain.

What is the best way to treat hammer toe (little toe)? I am using a silicone gel tube & wider shoes but still have pain.

Hammered toes: Hammer toes develop when the foot flexors take over the extensors and a hammered appearance of the toe ensues. They can be painful and despite wider shoes and silicon covers, may need to be corrected by a surgical procedure. A Podiatrist should be consulted to explain to you the procedure and its risks. Good luck.

Diagnosed Interdigital nerve compression 4th/5th but hypersensitive little toe/foot, can't tolerate shoes, whole foot now becoming numb. Misdiagnosed?

Diagnosed Interdigital nerve compression 4th/5th but hypersensitive little toe/foot, can't tolerate shoes, whole foot now becoming numb. Misdiagnosed?

Not Common: If only the 4th and 5th toes were involved originally, and the diagnosis was made based on that observation, then the diagnosis was acceptable. The effects of time have now caused further, more extensive tissue involvement and updated diagnosis is needed. Unilateral whole foot neuropathies are confusing and further testing of the entire foot as well as lower leg needs to be done to clear the air.

My 3 month old just got two red spots on her heels one on the back of each foot right above her heels looks like it would from someone with shoes that are too small but she doesn't wear shoes they don't seem to bother her at all they have been there for a

There could be many: Reasons those red dots are there. I.E. A bite, a scratch, an abrasion etc. Babies do kick their feet around. It may also be none of the above the hard thing is that we can't see the red spots as you do. For this reason I would recommend you take your baby to the doctor - her pediatrician, a dermatologist or podiatrist should be able to help.
