I had a skin abscess drained 3 days ago & put on antibiotics. Wound is now 2-3× larger & looks like a deep hole. Is this normal for healing?

Need follow-up: Tough to say what is normal or not normal over computer. After an i&d, the area may be larger. Best is to call the provider, and get a re-check on the area to assure it is not worsening or getting infected. The provider who did the I&D knows your clinical case best and "first hand, " and will be able to more adequately provide your care. Good luck. ...Read more

I have a sebaceous cyst on neck. Was given cephalexin at ER because it caused a skin abscess(?).Will this get rid of it, or will i still need surgery?

Sebaceous cyst: The cephalexin was prescribed to treat the infection. This will likely improve the swelling/size of the cyst, but will not get rid of it. Hi I have a skin abscess for a year now. I have it in multiple places. Larger than 1/2 inch is it serious ?

Or if the abscesses are limited to certain areas like the groin or armpits, you might have hidradenitis suppurativa, an autoimmune disorder. Either could be serious. Culture tests for staph/strep and perhaps consultation with a dermatologist or infectious diseases specialist may be advisable. See your doctor. ...Read more
