Navel pierced 6 days ago, been doing sea salt water washes, but its red around the hole & really itchy. Why? & how can I clean it & prevent infection?

Infection?: If it is very red and warm, it might be infected. See a physician. If it just a little red and itchy (and no drainage or pus), then it is probably just healing. Try using hydrogen peroxide to clean and neosporin. Have the person who pierced it take a look. ...Read more

Pus is not normal.: Check for signs of infection: ^'ed redness, warmth, swelling. ^'ed tenderness, pus, red streaking, swollen lymph nodes or fever. Recommend keeping piercing in place unless directed by Dr (if removed – drainage tract will close up w ^'ed risk of abscess formation). Call Dr for medical evaluation.
